I was at Best Buy checking out the HD discs. I almost grabbed T2 for $24.95. I passed, then we headed to Target for some other shopping. When I checked to see if they had HD discs, not only did they have them, but they were mostly $19.99, including T2, which I grabbed. How can they be cheaper than Best Buy on something like this, AND, look at their selection:

HD DVD's

Even Young Guns is going to be $19.99 (tomorrow release). Crazy.

Sorry, I understood Digi meant that you could take Target prices online to BB to price match. He recommended that in the general HD thread (I think) and it works for just about everybody except here in Idaho.

Best Buy doesn't always have the "best" deal; some of their prices are quite outrageous. There have been several times where I've purchased a DVD from Target for less than it was at Best Buy. Likewise, there have been loads of times where Target has had higher prices than Best Buy, Wal*Mart, and Circuit City. It's cases like that where I really wonder if Target is aware of the going price.

why do they cost more at best buy? because they can. Thats really the only answer. I pretty much shop at any other place now because i can get them cheaper. Theres a New England chain of video/music stores called Newbury Comics, and they carry all the hddvd and blu ray releases for much cheaper than BB. The average movie is $5-$8 cheaper than BB. Everything that is 25 at best buy is 19 at NC, and all the 30 movies are 23.95.

No, because Best Buy will consisently blow every mom and pop shop out of the water on new and recent music releases. Their HD discs are almost always MSRP, though.

The only HD's and BD's I've bought at Best Buy were when I had $150 in RZ certificates to spend or they had the 2 for 1. They really need to get their shit together with pricing.

When I'm not ordering from Amazon, I get pretty much all my HD's and BD's from Fry's, with the occasional Target purchase.

Pricing sucks on the high-def discs at Best Buy, but the selection, at least at mine, is terrific. They have almost everything that's been released. And unlike Walmart and Target, they don't replace one title when a new one gets released. They actually *gulp* make room for that new release and keep the old one. I hate when WM and Target does that shit.

My Walmart already got rid of MI3 on both formats to make room for other releases, including catalog titles. WTF?

But currently, they are sold out of every title, save for 1 or 2. So that's a good sign.

I make it a rule to never to buy anything at Best Buy unless no other place has it and I don't want to what for an online shipment, it's simply not the best buy. As far as I know the only time their prices are decent is in the first week of release. Basically their prices on everything are way over what you could get it for elsewhere. I guess they stay in business out of convenience and advertising.

Only time I purchased HD-DVDs from Best Buy is when I had Monopoly BB Bucks, everything else is ordered from Amazon.

I don't buy any HD discs at Best Buy here but they are usually priced around $5 below retail most of the time. its just so much cheaper buying discs online.

I think my Best Buy has finally moved over to their new mall location(I haven't been over that way in around a month so I don't know) so the prices may be full retail now.

Best Buy is not exactly known for having great prices.
I mean, they are no Tower, but not too far behind...

At both of my local Targets, they have finally dropped the prices on some of their HD combos. When they did their re-set, all of the Universal Combo discs were a ridiculous $39.99. Now, Children of Men and The Good Shepherd both have dropped to new $29.99 prices. Miami Vice only dropped $5, down to $34.99. They also received Breach this week, at $29.99. It does appear Target is doing a better job of getting newer titles on a consistent basis. For a several week period, they wouldn't get anything new on HD DVD. I've also noticed they put both HD DVD/BD new releases in with the main New Release DVD section. It's good to see them putting a better effort in promoting the formats.
