Changes a brewing at the top of NBC Universal...

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la...=la-home-local

Jeff Zucker will be taking over NBC Universal this week. The way I understand it, this is the entire company, not just one division like TV. This may have no impact what so ever on the HDwars, but it could be huge if he decides Universal needs to go neutral. He is going to want to make some positive changes to increase the profit margins right away to make his own "stamp" on the company. Releasing on Blu Ray sure would help.

What doe everyone think?

I predict he will fire everyone and hire trained hippos. Man, are they hungry.

Three cheers for pointless speculation!

I think he's going to hire the cast of Scrubs to perform shows for him every night.

Releasing on Blu-ray wouldn't even amount to a rounding error for their home video division. We HD nuts are kinda insignificant at the moment.

Right. Cause the guards changing hands at Sony made BR fold?

From those sales figures I read BR ain't folding anytime soon, no matter how much I want it to.

But hopefully he will keep Battlestar Galactica in production with a vote of confidence. And get Sci-Fi to order season 11 of Stargate SG-1.

Maybe he will actually put out some HD-DVD releases? Who knows.

Won't change the fact they are the worst of the 4 networks for HD picture quality, audio quality, station hardware and other problems. At least not soon.

Aren't I on your blocked list? Besides, like that is an evenly remotely similar situation.

As head of any company he should be looking towards maximizing future profits as well. Thus the format war should be on his radar. Whether he changes Universal's position or not is another matter.

I thought Craig Kornblau (pres. of Home Entertainment division) was fully in charge of that. He's 100% behind HD DVD.

I've only been able to watch Heroes twice this season in HD. Don't know what my local affiliate does, but time after time the audio and/or video is screwed up making the HD feed unwatchable. Commercials are usually fine though.

Yeah, they need to at least get going, regardless of financial impact. At this point, HD discs are basically a marketing thing. They need to get people interested if they expect to make money at this at all. (both disc camps)

There have been no hard sales figures released for either format, just comparative percentages which don't give you any indication of whether any company involved is actually making money or not.

That's what I was thinking. This new guy isn't going to personally oversee every department within the company. Sure, he'll review them but he will also have to trust the heads of those departments. If anything, I suspect we'll start seeing more double-dips from Universal before a format jump. I look forward to the next release of Scarface!

Eh, I wouldn't say that it's trolling, but it's speculation that's probably a little too far off for the purposes of this forum.
