I am STILL waiting for The Ghost and the Darkness to come out on Blu-Ray! That is really the only older movie that I still really want. Anyone know about it?

So, Ghost World will be out, shortly. Buffalo '66 is already out. Devil's Backbone is out.
But, no joy (Region A) for any of the above, except 1984.

Real Genius is a holy grail title that just came out on Blu. It is a pricey Amazon burn on demand title, and reviews that focus on the film instead of the cost of the Blu are actually saying it has a good PQ and Martha Coolidge provides a commentary which is nice but otherwise bare bones with no additional extras.

According to blu-ray.com, it's a Paramount title. I think I have the DVD, but it's not an important title in my collection. I'm pissed nobody has done Stephen King's Storm of the Century. I know Echo Bridge had access to it at one point. I want single disc release of it to replace this double-sided garbage DVD.

Plenty of other movies more neglected too... Sidekicks (1992), Catch Me if You Can (1989), Back in Action (1994), Volcano-Fire on the Mountain (1997), or some of the many other movies that still haven't gotten a DVD release, much less blu-ray. Not to mention some titles that need proper treatment but HBO etc is just sitting on them forever like Bridge of Dragons (1999), Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter is Dead (1991), and No Escape (1994).

If you don't mind importing, the UK release is all-region, although it doesn't seem to be that warmly received.

This should be with Sony stateside, and with as license-happy as they are, I'm surprised someone hasn't snapped it up.

I just watched The Ghost and the Darkness (1996) on Encore, and was wondering why this isn't on Blu-ray in the US. It's available in Europe on BD. It's a very suspenseful story with fantastic location photography.

So I have been paying much less attention to upcoming blu ray releases, so a couple of catalog titles that were recently released on blu snuck up on me, first I noticed a review for Space Camp on this site, and I am all holy cow it is amazing and so random that this movie just came out on blu, and added it to my amazon cart (I had an itch to watch it a couple months back and viewed my ripped dvd copy on my apple tv), and ye gods another massive surprise, I noticed a review for The Hidden on blu!

I am still picking my jaw up from the floor because after all this time I thought that if titles like Space Camp and The Hidden had not come out on blu in North America after all this time that they probably never would (and at best I might get lucky to see these films in HD if they randomly popped up on the schedule of say the IFC or AMC network). Maybe if I continue to not pay attention to blu ray catalog release dates a review for Alligator on blu will eventually show up for me to check out when I hit this site.

I'm still waiting for someone to pick up and realease a nice blu-ray Collector's Edition of Grand Tour: Disaster in Time with Jeff Daniels. The only copy I could find of that movie is full screen, came in the old style jewel case, and the movie is VHS quality. There's a better WS DVD version of it but I'm not paying $50+ for it. I wish someone would pick up the rights to do a proper blu-ray release of it.

Andy: The Great Beyond I find it disappointing that Man on the Moon isn't out on Blu-ray. Hopefully it comes out at some point.

I'd like to know why the fuck Scorpion King hasn't gone UHD yet. It was way better than the 3rd Mummy movie and deserves to be part of that set, as it was connected to that series.

Regarding three particular Netflix films that can currently be streamed on that site:

I contacted Netflix minutes ago and asked when we might expect DVD/Blu-ray releases of these films, and was told by Harley that he had not received any information about video release as of now.

These are good movies (I would say the first two are truly outstanding), and I would like to have physical copies of them. How about you all?

Yep I did that, it kind of feels like an upconvert though. I did the disc to digital for it. Also tried that for "We Are Your Friends", but it wouldn't work.

I thought if you did D2D from a DVD source it would convert inSD quality? If so, then that's why the quality may not be up to snuff. Now if you just bought it through VUDU directly in HDX, would it still look bad and not be 1080p? I'd like to think not.

It's been how many years since the release of BR and these still don't have decent releases?

Bugsy - although tremendous artistic license was taken with this movie compared to the real story, the movie still won two Oscars. Should have gotten a nice BR release by now.

Dragnet - I still have my VHS copy signed by Alexandra Paul. So far just a lousy 1st gen DVD.

Pearl Harbor (Directors cut) - Apparently a very nice BR already for the theatrical, but the DC was a much better war film. Not a good movie, but the added realism made it better.

Timeline - a guilty pleasure that would look good in HD

Tin Cup - an enjoyable golf movie that never got a really nice release

True Lies - in a hundred years when Cameron is done with Avatar 46, he'll oversee a restoration and full blown decent HD release of True Lies. You know. The one he promised 6 months after the original DVD was released 20 years ago

Paramount lately been on a roll with Saving Private Ryan and Braveheart on blu-ray 4k.

Please Paramount give me a Godfather and Godfather II 4k editions so I can happily shoot my load. :drool:
