Blu-Ray is now cracked...
It was only a matter of time.
I'm wondering how long until they can figure out how to make an HD DVD out of BD files...or vice versa.

I knew all along it wouldn't take long for both formats to be cracked.
You're right, it'll be interesting to see if piraters will release BDs of HD DVDs and vice versa. I don't condone this activity but I admit I might be tempted if the quality is equal to the originals as it should be.

Does this mean that Blu-Ray's encryption is better than HD-DVDs since it took a week longer, or does this mean that Blu-Rays (supposedly superior) encryption is actually inferior since HD-DVD has been available for longer?

BTW: Copies of at least 5 HD-dvd titles are floating around the torrent and filesharing sites.

BD+ will also be cracked whenever they decide to go towards that.

Maybe someday the studios will realize that they are fighting a lost cause and that this has a much smaller effect on their sales then they realize.
The cracking of either HD format is no big deal right now, people who support piracy generally don't care about quality. And its cheaper to buy an HD movie then it is to buy a recorder and black media.

The problem with producing HD DVD versions of BDs though, is that BD has a higher maximum bitrate, so encodings that go higher than HD DVD's peak rate would not work if transferred to an HD DVD (unless they can remove something, like PCM tracks).

Yeah, this is funny. For all the studios that went to Blu-Ray for the supposed extra protection, screw you!

Glad I don't live next to you, I'd have to check my garage every day, see if my stuff is still there.

Yeah, screw you Fox. That'll show you to mess with some guy on DVDTalk!
I swear some people have taken this whole format "war" way too personally.
And we thought the videogame fanboys were bad...

But realistically, that will be broken too. None of this matters and is not a surprise. I'm amazed at companies that think they can have software copy protection. Hardware copy protection is the only way they would stand a small chance.
