I'm using a 60g PS3 and am only using optical right now. I was going to get the Panasonic because of the analog outs but decided I'd rather put that extra $ toward the cost of a receiver down the road. its a great player too. audio is great with the optical out by the way.

I'm looking for the 20 gig model at the moment. Where are you guys finding it? I've seen several 60 gig's around here. Just not what I want. I could use the 100 dollar savings towards the Onkyo 804! Thanks

I think I will go for the Samsung BUT will wait until the new BDP-1200 comes out, the spec seems quite good for it and starting prices should be around the $800 range.
Thanks for all your input! |
I picked up the 60 gig PS3 and the remote. Great remote btw. Fantastic player. I have played about 20 movies with it so far, and um, no games. :)

This is a big problem, for example, on Kung-Fu Hustle. Sony elected to include the original Cantonese soundtrack only in PCM 5.1 format. The disc also has English and French dubs in DD 5.1, but no Cantonese. If you're watching on a PS3 and don't have an HDMI receiver, you either have to settle for the original language in 2.0 or a dub in 5.1. |
The OP is in England. Doesn't the latest firmware upgrade for the Samsung enable region coding which could be a problem since Europe is a different region?

I'm pretty sure I remember my DTS flag coming on when using the PCM track, but I'll have to double-check on of my other PCM titles since Grimm was a rental.
I have my HD-A1 hooked up to the analog outs, and outside of finding some kind of switch I guess I'll just be leaving the BDP-S1 connected via optical. Other than PCM titles, I think I'm probably better of with that anyway since the DTS-HD tracks are just extracting the core. I supposed I could just move the cables around as needed, but in the long run that might be too much wear and tear. |
Not sure really. I was just taking a look. I seriously doubt that I would buy from ebay.

I got my 120 gig 2.5 SATA from ZZF, under $100. WD with a 3 year warranty. |

And I think I lost count of how many Toshie's I "sold" on this board alone. If and when I end up getting a BD machine (whether it's the PS3 or otherwise), I expect the heavens to fall around here. ;) |

Have you tried NYC CL? The way I look at it is that I was/am totally all for HD DVD and I spent $350 on that. It's really non-sensical for me to pay that much MORE for BD when I'm really just doing it...well, to do it, at this point. |
Yeah, Im waiting for a BD player for under $400 as well (since thats what I paid for my HD-DVD player) but I dont have some credit at Gamestop and some games and dvds to trade in so I may end up getting one from there since in a since I could get one for around $300.
