It would be a wise and beneficial move for each of these titles to be released day and date with their counterpart SD-DVD's. Of course I'm positive that won't happen though. It's simply easier to complain about the formats not taking off.

On a side note, I recently read an article stating that by 2012 HD titles will outsell SD titles. Thoughts?

And out of all of those, the only one that might make me jump on BD is Casino Royale.

Would be nice if MGM via Fox would release several of the Bond films on the same day Casino Royale comes out. I know CR is a Sony title but hey, strength in numbers right. It'd basically be free promotion for Fox to do such a thing since you know Sony is going to heavily promote the DVD/BD releases of CR.

If they release From Russia With Love, Goldeneye, and Casino Royale on the same day, I would buy the Panasonic right then and there just for them.

You'd think 2007 would be the perfect time to give Bond a big promotional push.

LOL, you read my mind. I've been telling everyone this past week that 2007 is the year of Bond for that very reason.

That's cool to hear but I'm a bit surprised after our recent conversation that you'd chose one of the most expensive Blu-ray players to play them on.

DolbyTrueHD/DTS-HD MA and analog outs are a must have for me in any next-gen format player. Right now, Panny is the only one that has both (or, at least, has announced intentions to support lossless audio). Pioneer has basically given lossless audio the bird, Sony's is apparently built by Pioneer so no for them, too, and Samsung said their 1st gen won't support it, either.

Great list Adam, I just wanted to chime in with my thanks. That really gives me a good picture of the year that was for theatrical releases on HD.

It's kind of sad that 3 of the top 4 grossing films aren't on HD. I know they're not all critical darlings, but they are commercial blockbusters and would help either or both formats.

Out of the available or announced HD listings there are 4 Blu-ray films that I would buy if I had the player. Though I wish I could get the titles for my A1 it's not enough to justify another player yet. That may change down the road a ways but the players need to come down in price and I need analog outs with lossless audio.

There are so few movies I want from that list it's scary, and those I do want aren't exactly "high wants" either. Two of the biggest releases, Jackass and Borat, were done mostly on video anyway, so they won't see any benefits from HD. I'd like to check out Cars and Little Miss Sunshine in HD, though.

I wish I would have known that both Pirates and Little Miss Sunshine were coming to BD.

Is it tacky to ask people who gave the SD version as gifts for the receipts?

Those are from studios that support Blu-ray, which is why I labeled them that way, but neither of those movies has been announced as definitively coming to Blu-ray. We could get an announcement in a couple of weeks. Could be months. Could be years. Could be never. (Pirates is a lock for 2007, I'm sure. Little Miss Sunshine...? Tougher to say.)

I would expect five extremely high grossing HD movie sets for xmas 2007:

Pirates
Matrix
Harry Potter
Spiderman
X-Men

I would expect Matrix and HP to be HD-DVD exclusives.

I would think these five sets alone should sell buttloads of players.

That'd be terrific if all of these come out next Christmas season. I better start saving now though as I'd want each one you have listed.

Funny, cause I want none of them. Different strokes.

Give me the Jaws, Superman, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park movies, please....

And the sad part is that I'll get none.

I've got four sons. What they don't like off that list I do. Not that I'd say no to Jaws or the JP series. Superman is already out on both formats though unless you're wanting 3 & 4.

You're forgetting about 2.

I'd actually want the whole package that came out in the tin. I hated having to buy all 3 HD's plus the boxed set. I am a fan of 3 and 4 and i wanted the regular cut of 2...plus all the extras. And I'm VERY glad I did. The documentary about all the movies was worth it.

Superman 1/2 are classics. I didn't care for 3/4 though. I did like the Richard Donner cut of 2 but I too would like the theatrical version of that as well. I don't doubt that the SD box is nice but I'm too spoiled by HD to go back to SD at this point.

Enh. I'm a movie fan and a movie-MAKING fan which I why I want all the extras. I want to spoil myself with movies. If that's the only way to get the documentaries, so be it. Extras don't need to be in HD.

I think that Universal will surprise us with Jurassic Park in time for XMAS.
