So No One Has an Issue with the 360 HD Add-On Sound Quality?

I love the PQ, but the sound to me is so....flat. And I have an Onkyo and good Subwoofer.

The funny thing is when I play a regular dvd, the sound is BOOMING. When I play an HD-DVD, the sound is kinda weak.

I'm not the only one. I just went on the AVS forum, and people there have complaints that the sound seems flat and not very strong.

Anyone hear getting this, too?

Yes, I've noticed it also. I have a Yamaha 5990 and the audio from the HD-DVD add-on does not compare to my Sony upconvert DVD player. I will probably get a regular HD-DVD player sometime next year when prices come down.

Has Microsoft addressed the issue at all?

People bitched about it in the 360 add on thread. You might try there. Hopefully there will be a patch for it.

Yeah, sound isn't as good, but look at the bright side... You save $300 from a regular set-top unit.

I suspect Microsoft will issue some patches, but who knows when.

Amir told avs that they're adding DTS encoding support to fix the issue as well as fixing another DD encoding bug.

Even if they release a quick fix patch now, they may still add more when they release the next XBOX Live dashboard update, which I believe happens next Spring.

Count me in as another user who finds the sound flat. According to AVS, the fix may not be released for another 3 monthes.

The picture quality is great, but my excitement level dropped off immensly when I heard the sound. In fact, at the moment I prefer watching SD-DVD's.

I guess we'll have to wait for the patch (or return the unit).

I think it was some of the earlier HD-DVD's that had issues....I'm watching Superman Returns and the sound is REALLY aggressive.

That could be it as well. Are you watching in DD+ or TrueHD ?? I think it's only the DD+ tracks that have issues. TrueHD is supposed to sound great.

I'll second that - Superman was pretty hefty in the audio dept . . .
Everytime it scared the hell out of the cat it made a smile creep across my face.

I haven't really noticed any problems with the sound. I've only watched three HD-DVDs though, as I just got my TV.

There is a known problem, it has to do with dynamic range compression incorrectly turned on for DD+ tracks, Microsoft is aware of it, Amir is aware of it, there is a fix which is in the works, they are also adding realtime DTS encoding, the fix will not be available until after Christmas.

Did I miss anything?

Thanks. Will the patch be available for free to download?

Nice. I wondered why I had to turn it up so much louder than Blu-Rays & dvds.
