That seems consistent with what I've heard-those with DLP see more macroblocking from the Oppo. I have a CRT-RPTV. I have not watched Narnia on the Oppo, but I'll likely be viewing the extended edition soon-we'll see how well it does.

I obviously didnt have the extended edition since it was earlier this year, but I think the transfer is the same as the regular version.

I didn't hear about the Oppo displaying more macroblocking on DLPs, but if it does, that's scary, because every single disc I watched on my CRT had noticeable macroblocking.

Ive just always heard it was display dependant and CRTs usually dont have as big of a problem.

Worst title Ive seen is Halloween: 25th Anniversary edition. Terrible macroblocking! The Oppo handled it better than other F chip players, but still noticed it. I dont see ANY on the A1 (or on my momitsu V880dx when I used to have it).

The worst I saw was the R3 version of Silent Hill. It's like someone tore the movie up and tried to paste it back together in large square patches. Awful.

Can I ask what your brightness and contrast settings are on your display?

Also, do you know what firmware your Oppo is on? Are all the settings at 0?

I don't doubt you at all-I'm just curious to see what the differences may be between our setups. I have the latest firmware on my Oppo, and I believe when I had my set calibrated we bumped brightness up one notch and contrast down one notch on the Oppo. I don't have any of their other video enhancements turned on.

Also, what would you say your viewing distance is?

Unfortunately, the Oppo is in a different city, but I have it set to the optimal settings outlined in the AVS Oppo FAQ. I updated the firmware everytime they updated it and redid the settings everytime. As for contrast and brightness, I also have it set to the optimal settings listed for that display on AVS, but once the DVE HD DVD comes out, I'll recalibrate. I only use my Oppo for other-region discs at this point, anyway.

Gotcha. My Oppo tends to run a little brighter than other devices connect to the same input. I think by adjusting for this during my last re-calibration appointment my brightness is lowered to the point where the blocking isn't very noticeable.
