The video judder problem on the XA2 has been confirmed by other users. This problem appears to be endemic to the model, not just a faulty unit.

^^^That's too bad. I was considering an upgrade. I wonder of it can be fixed via firmware?

I havent had any problems as of yet so...I do have the A1 (of course you know that, lol) but which I would think would be "glitchier" than the A2.

Yeah, personally, I dont think its the receiver, not sure though. Standard DVD is fine and isnt a problem. For some odd reason, its only when I watch HD-DVD.

I have my logitech remote setup to turn everything on for me. I just need to set a delay in the macro. Just been too lazy to do it.

But, its not a big deal right now, I can change it via the remote. I dont have to get up to change it.

Looks like i'm going to be paying off my CC bill before I even think about it at this point so it'll be a while. Hopefully prices will drop even more...but at this point, it seems like the Onkyo is the only receiver in it's price range with HDMI.

Are you doing this over HDMI? The only similar problem that I've had with my A1 (and any other HDMI device) is that you have to switch the receiver to the input of the HDMI device before turning on the device itself. There's a handshake in there between receiver and device that has to be done early on or you'll have problems.

If you're not doing this over HDMI, disregard this message.

BTW, for anyone looking for an HDMI receiver, I can recommend the Onkyo SR674.

Yes, my A2 is only connected via HDMI.

Ill have to look and see which is powered on or switched to first. Im not sure since my logitech does this for me. But, still its odd that standard dvd is recognized, but hd-dvd is not.

Again, not a deal breaker for me, just annoying sometimes. Other than that, I love the setup right now.

It could be a matter of the advanced audio codecs not being transported from SD-DVD over HDMI as opposed to HD-DVD.

I did a search in this thread, but couldn't find my answer.

Dumb question: does the A2 have some kind of disc memory? Can I turn it off and the disc will start up again at the same point?

In that case, one last question: Will it pick up where it left off if you just stop it but leave the power on?

On the Warner discs you can bookmark you films. For some reason though Universal does not support this feature.

More recent Universal titles have started to support it.

As was already mentioned, this is possible only if bookmarking is supported for HD DVDs. However, you can stop an SD DVD movie and resume playback at the same point so long as you don't turn the A2 off. I'm not bashing manufacturers here, but I never really understood why DVD players have this feature as well as a 'Pause' button.

That is awesome. Haven't picked up any new HD DVDs in awhile so I didn't know. How about Paramount?

Pause button keeps the disk spinning and the player working out. If you're leaving for an hour, do it a favor and hit stop.

Come to think of it, this has been true ever since the tape days.

If I know I'm going to be away from the movie for about >10-30 minutes, I turn the player and tv off. I realize I may belong to a dying breed of people who still does this, but I don't leave any electronic device "On" if I'm not using it.

Did you unplug your VCR when the clock stayed on?

re: Universal discs. Miami Vice did allow a stop / resume start.

This would actually be bad if you had a CRT RPTV, since they typically need a good 30-45 minutes warm up time to look their best.

I would also say the stress of powering/powering off more foten would be worse than sustained running of the device. YMMV.

How is the audio output on the A2 compared to the A1? I've read more than a handful of posts at AVS claiming the audio output is lower/not as good as the A1. As in, it's something that should be fixed via firmware.

I also noticed on Amazon that they have the Toshiba A20 listed. My A1 is still going strong, but I'm getting to the point to where I do want a faster player and one has no playback glitches. I'm going to see how much the A2 drops when the A20 is released.

http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-HD-A20...&s=electronics

The ship date I saw was late February for the A20.

I don't think that would be of any help to you. Get DVE or a proper reference disc.
