More good news!

Looks like there are some other BD-only titles making their way to HD DVD!

This is GREAT news!

but how can they get away with it?

Also--how is the quality of these transfers, is it a dupe of the blu ray just transferred to HD-DVD or is it something else from some other studio?

I'm not too much interested in owning Underworld in HD, partly becuase i already shelled out for 2 different regular DVD versions of it, but i would be tempted to get the HD DVD just as an FU to Blu-Ray.

Different studios control the content in other regions of the world. Just like T2 will be available in HD-DVD in January in France. The fact that HD-DVD does not have region coding on their current titles is a huge + for them, IMHO.

Different transfers from different companies. I think they're mostly VC1's.

What is that Ben Affleck movie? I speak Spanish, but I can't figure out what the hell it is. The Spanish title translates to: Diary of the Aggressive Executive.

If every title is available somewhere on HD-DVD this could sink blu ray

Yeah, um, HD DVDs released in Europe outside the UK will have burned-in subtitles in the native language (in this case Spanish). I'll pass.

Not necessarily. Someone on avs confirmed that the German HD-DVDs of King Kong and Running Scared do not have burned-in subtitles, and they even give you the option of choosing the language for the disc menus.

That picture shows Underworld Evolution, not Underworld. Nevertheless, I may have to import it and The Good The Bad And The Ugly.

Man, that would be awesome if we could get our hands on some foreign edition of the DVDs - only if the subtitles weren't burned in.

And yeah...Underworld...

Burned in subtitles aren't going to be an issue. Everyone can just let that rest.
