Uh oh...Superman Returns HD-DVD lock up issue...
FYI: My Wal-Mart broke the street date on the Superman Returns HD-DVD, plus it was mispriced at $19.92 so I had to pick it up. HOWEVER, as I was watching it this evening, the player locked up during the sequence where Superman and Lois go flying. I tried to skip ahead and it wouldn't let me. With enough fanagling I was able to start watching it two chapters past the issue. The chapters in question are 20-22.
I will return the disc after Tuesday and exchange it for another to see if it is the disc or the player. But I'm betting it's the player, I'm not sure if it is a Dual Layer 40GB disc, but if it is, I wonder if this is why it locked up. The Xbox downloaded an update when I put in the disc also, so I wonder if there's a known issue that Microsoft is trying to fix before people start experiencing problems.
Please post your experiences with the disc this week so I can see if others are experiencing this problem.

Doubtful it has anything to do with the disc being dual-layer. 95% of all HD DVDs are dual-layer. I'm betting it's a hardware issue. Did you try powering down the player and turning it back on?

If it is roughly the same as Amazon, I am going to just pick it up at Wal-Mart.

I was referring to strictly HD DVD releases since I never so much as give Blu-Ray a glance, but since the start of the high def era at Target started, the one here has carried the exact same releases they had on Day 1. Nothing more.

This isn't a lock up issue, but has anyone else noticed a missing frame in the movie? It occurs at 9:40 when Martha is getting out of her pickup truck. I have the HD DVD version, maybe I should flip over to the standard side and see if it's just inherent in the source material.
I had plenty of skipping issues on my HD-D1 (just an all black version of the A1) during those scenes in question when Superman and Lois go flying at night.

Okay, now I'm having a lock-up issue. After the scene where Clark and Lois talk about saying goodbye in front of the Daily Planet, there's a scene where Superman flies to Lois' home and watches her and her fiancee with his x-ray vision. At the beginning of that scene, the image locks up, and it freezes the whole player. I can get it to stop, but not play afterwards. I had to actually unplug the machine and plug it back in because I couldn't power it off. I'm going to go back to the store and get a replacement, but I've never had a disc act like that before.

My disk skips during the Lois and Superman flight scene through the you where smoking line. Does both on the 360 and the A1. Best Buy is sold out so no exchange for a few days for me.

No visable flaws on the disk.
Whats wierd is I throw the SD side in the OPPO and it wont play that scene either.

That's exactly where it froze up for me. I just wanted to know if it was a disc error or an XBOX 360 error. Sounds like it's the former.
I watched my replacement disc starting from that point and it was fine. Now I should probably watch the first half again and see if the Superman spying on Lois scene is problematic.
