What extras were included?

EDIT: Forget it. Found my answer. A ton of extras missing from both Young Guns and American Psycho. Would've picked up both. :down:

Again, though, I still haven't seen a player below $400 and have a feeling I won't for a while. And with all of the 1st gen machines being crippled, I doubt I'll be buying into BD for a very long time.

Do what you want. I hope you enjoy it, whichever way you go. I'm not here to start an argument or to get banned. I'm just saying that for MY standards (and apparently I'm not alone), BD just isn't delivering.

I think this post by freak from the "Should I bite on Blu Ray?" thread says it all. He has no intention of buying a BD player anytime soon and should not be posting in this thread according to Adam's rules for these exclusive threads.

Speaking of the whole biting on Blu Ray thing . . . I think I'm going to do it. I found a slightly used Samsung unit for $400. Is that a good deal?

New Samsung BD-P1000 units are now $600, so that is a good deal. I had that unit and liked it quite a bit. Of course, I sold it to get a PS3...that experiment backfired and I'm without a BD player.

The upcoming BD-P1200 should be an even better unit. It's retail price will be $799.

Well, I did it. I guess now I don't really have to care about the "format wars". For those of you who have both, do you prefer the Blu Ray release or the HD DVD release? I have The Departed and Babel preordered on HD DVD this month, is there any reason to get the Blu Ray version instead?

I'm getting Babel on HD DVD due to the VC1. But I'm going Blu on The Departed because of the cheaper price.

The Blu Ray version of Departed is $4.00 cheaper. Other than that there should be no difference, so it is just your preference.

Yes. Get The Departed on Blu Ray. Cheaper and it's not a combo. PQ and AQ figure to be the same.

Babel isn't VC1 on HD DVD. I believe it's AVC on both.

AVC MPEG-4 on HD DVD, MPEG-2 on Blu-ray

HD DVD wins.

Why would HD-DVD win with Babel on the codecs? The Blu-ray is a BD50. HDD reviewed both and said they're exactly the same, just like all the other Paramount titles.

Yes it's AVC on HD-DVD while MPEG2 on BD, but I'll tell you now that a BD from Para will have an AVC encoded title soon.

Does the Samsung BDP 1000 play R1 SD-DVDs back in DTS?
Just read it somewhere that it didn't and was wondering if it was true.

Does it do anything other than help out those with 1.50 BD playback problems? (I havn't had any problems with 1.50 btw)

If you use the Toslink or coaxial connection the BD-P1000 will pass DTS to your receiver. The player does not have a DTS decoder if you were planning to only use the 5.1 analog outputs, however.

From the PS3 website (whatever it means):

New for 1.51: Support for PLAYSTATION®3 format software titles has been expanded.

So, the PS3 will play PS3 discs? How fortunate!
