I don't have an in-depth review for you, but I did watch this Sunday night. It is by far the best sounding HD DVD I've ever heard. And if it isn't the best looking, it's damn close.

Just a great presentation all around. If you like the movie, you'll be in heaven with this disc.

There is absolutly nothing negative one can say regarding this disc. Stunning picture and while I do agree the audio was brilliant, I still think Training Day's TrueHD track was better. Discs like this one is why I love HD-DVD and why I will stick with them until the end.

Saw this in the Theatre (Seattle Cinerama no less) and just loved it. The music...the dialogue the performances by a great cast.

I had to have the HD DVD and I do. Now I just need to decide on what playback device I want.

Regarding the Dolby TrueHD track...

I got the HD addon for the X360 this week, as a temporary solution until I find a standalone player I really like. I know that it downsamples everything to DD, but I ran into an odd situation.

Watching the very end of V for Vendetta,
Spoiler:
the explosions sounded very good with TrueHD enabled. Loud, the music clear, etc. Out of curiosity, I rewinded it and switched to DD. 95% of the detail was gone. Just a boom-boom-boom, without the details (mostly in the treble, things breaking, glass, etc).

Is this normal? It sounded like it actually had a different mix or something (rather than just adding more depth and clarity to the existing mix). I remember not being impressed with the climax when I watched it on the SD DVD...

Has anybody else compared these? I'm hesitant to make a real call since the 360 messes with the audio tracks, but I'm very curious what it's all about.

This might be the disc that gets me to find analog cables for the audio.

We gave this a spin tonight and I agree that the TrueHD was simply amazing. My sub was shaking things that I didn't even know I had.
