I never listen to commentaries, but there are two there as well as for the deleted/alternate scenes.

I read hidefdigest review and I have to ask what Peter Bracke is talking about in regards to the lack of a pop-up menu and switching audio on the fly. There most certainly is a popup menu during the movie and I was easily able to switch between all the audio tracks, subtitles and extras through it during the playing of the movie. Not to mention I was also able to change them on the fly with the Sammy's Audio & Subtitle buttons on the remote.

Picture quality is excellent, right up there with MI:3 as one of the best that I have seen. The DTS ES track shows up as such on my Denon, and to be honest, if this is "only" running at 1.5mbps, I can't even imagine what the MA will sound like. It's fucking loud as hell, the surround effect is truly immersive (especially with the rear center in effect) and is a serious candidate for destroying your subwoofers.

This is one amazing disc
Do the pop-ups mention how much better the Dark Phoenix storyline is in the comics?

Couldn't tell you since I'll probably never watch the popups and don't give a crap about the comics.

I haven't gotten to watch all of this, but the first 20 minutes look great. This is definitely one of the best looking BD titles I own. Love the DTS track at 1.5 mbps. One of these days, I'll get to experience the full DTS HD Master Audio mix. Can't wait to hear it in full force.

Yeah, I give kudos to whatever technology or makeup they used to "youngen" up Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan at the opening scene. It stands up to close HD scrutiny and is seamless.

Review from Home Theater Spot:

The 18mbs AVC encoding looks virtually flawless. Compression appears to be transparent viewing at 1080p on a 92" screen. Honestly, I think only a person intimate with the original photography could state whether or not the presentation could be improved. But, this looks essentially like I remember it in the theater.

AVC can look damn good, so this doesn't surprise me. Good for Fox for bringing out some high quality A/V releases. Now bring out Alien, and then I'll jump on a BD player.

So when is Peter Bracke going to change his review on hidefdigest? It still says the extras are SD and there are no pop-up menus (there's a picture of these right on the cover), which we know is false. Does he get pre-release screeners to review or something along those lines? I don't see how someone could mistake things like that.

My sentiments exactly. That's the title that will make me take the plunge - IF they do it right.

It would take more than Alien for me, I think. Throw in Die Hard, True Lies, X-Men 2, and The Incredibles/Finding Nemo, and then I'd give contemplation the time of day.

Say what you want about Fox and their business practices, but their DVD releases have always been quite good. They haven't been on the same level as Warner or New Line, but they're definitely above Paramount and Sony. They're one company I trust to provide quality releases.

Its just about par for the course. His reviews always have to be fact checked and compared against other reviews.

I think Fox could help you out with most of those, but I doubt they'd have much say on the Pixar films.

With Die Hard 4 out next Summer, it seems likely we'll get some sort of BD release of the original trilogy. I hope.
