Please Help Me!!!! Can my existing DVD player handle HD DVDs?
I just bought a JVC 56" HDILA tv. I have HD with Time Warner cable and a Sony progressive scan dvd player I bought last year. I can't get enough of the HD channels I have on cable. I am really curious about the HD DVDs that have come out. I can't afford the blue ray player yet ($600+). So my main question is do I have to buy a new player in order to play the HD DVDs? If so, what kind of player? And is it worth switching? PLEASE help me!!

Your bigger issue is that you want to play HD DVDs with a Blu-Ray player.
That aside, you can get the first gen HD-DVD player new for $400 (if you can find one) and a refurb or used for $300. If that's more in your price range, then go for it.
