The Fifth Element Blu-ray already has pop-up trivia. It looks nicer than the subtitle font on the regular DVD, but it's certainly no great innovation for BD-Java.

I was not a fan. It was well made but boring.

I purchased the "limited edition" 2-disc set on release day, several years ago. I've tried to watch this thing probably half a dozen times and I've yet to make it all the way through. Something about that flick just doesn't appeal to me.

I always assume that I "just wasn't in the right mood", though. So I keep it in my pile of movies to be watched. :)

Any of the following would've probably been welcomed:

X-men series
Alien series
I, Robot
Walk the Line
Master and Commander

Only example I have of a set where the extras might be worth buying, but the movie is not.

For anyone in SoCal:

Looks like the Toshiba HD DVD tour bus will be in SoCal mid-November. Amir on AVS is currently taking names to gauge interest in a HD DVD get together. I'll be going.

I wonder how many PS3 owners will buy Devil Wears Prada. I would say at least 20%.

Adam Tyner 10-19-06 06:37 AM

I'm not sure what to tell you. It uploaded fine for me.

Looks like the Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray player is delayed until December 4.

I was joking about giving away a free Fifth Element with every PS3, but check this out:

It seems funny, but its actually smart. Think about the Phantom of the Opera on hd-dvd. Someone posted this a while back...

^ Ah yes, the infamous "WAF". That wouldn't have occurred to me. But I wonder how many potential PS3 buyers are married?

("Honey, I bought that Devil Wears Prada disc you wanted. But I had to get a new $500 PlayStation to play it.")

change the $500 PS3 to the $1300 Panasonic and thats going to me right there. :D

I remember the wife saying "you paid $800 for another DVD player?" then after I picked her up Rumor Has It it changed to "this thing is pretty nice. what else is coming out?" :)

Ok here's the list of questions i have so far that i'll try to ask at the Universal thing tonight, if there's any other questions you want me to try to ask, you have till about 4:45p.m. central time.

1. Why did Universal choose to be exclusive to HD-DVD?

2. When can we expect some Spielberg movies(Jaws, Jurrasic Park, Munich) on HD-DVD?

3. When can we expect some TV on HD-DVD and what are some of the titles?

4. Why don't Universal HD-DVD's have "Zoom" & "Bookmark" feature enabled?

5. Is "The Producers"(2005) on the way to HD-DVD?

6. Is King Kong going to have TrueHD? How do you choose which movies will get TrueHD?

I would definitely appreciate it if you'd ask why they keep releasing so many combo titles, especially for catalog titles that I can't imagine benefit from it(i.e. Army of Darkness, The Breakfast Club).

7. When can we expect Back to the Future?

8. Aside from American Dreamz, you've been good at releasing most new titles day and date with the DVD counterpart. Was American Dreamz an oversight, or will you continue to only release select films day and date?

9. Any chance of the extended King Kong on HD-DVD?

I don't know if it is going beyond the scope of the question or not, but it also may be a good idea to stress the importance of original aspect ratio.

Universal has been cropping their older 4:3 shows (Knight Rider, Quantum Leap, The Equalizer) to 16:9 (to 'fill the screen') for their Universal HD channel. I personally find this unacceptable, and I assume that the vast majority of people who would buy HD DVDs do too. I'm just not sure that Universal has gotten the message.

So, I suppose, I'd add the following:

3. When can we expect some TV on HD-DVD and what are some of the titles?
3a. Can we expect to have shows released in the proper aspect ratio, unlike the cropped broadcasts on Universal HD? (Knight Rider, etc.)
