That is a rather spiffy looking player. If I were a Blu-Ray person, I'd definitely buy the Panasonic over anything else. I really like their equipment.

Eh, should've waited the extra two weeks to get this, but I'm an impulse buyer. I have no problems with the Sammy, so I don't mind too much, though it will eventually end up in the basement HT when I upgrade to another player.

There's no question in my mind that the Panny will be the player to beat. If only it wasn't so expensive, I'd have one today. But there's just no way I could justify that price, so I'm still in wait mode for Blu-ray.

Panny has been hit or miss with their dvd player line though havn't they? I honestly don't know because almost every single dvd player I have bought has been a Sony or Toshiba.
I'd wait to see how much the Pioneer costs IMO. Also remember new Gen 2 players may possibly be here by next spring.

It may be expensive, but that's what the technology costs. This thing is even supposed to upconvert DVDs better than anything else. Definitely worth every penny.

I don't think there's any doubt that Blu-ray is finally getting their act together, and the Panny IS going to be the best player of the 1G bunch, but it still isn't worth $1299 to me, no matter what ANYONE says.

However, it does look like a solid player and honestly it can't be worse than the piece of junk Samsung currently out there. Nice to see CD support as well.
I'll be interested in the reviews to see how this $1300 player compares to the $500 A1.

P4HD (Pixel Precision Progressive Processing for HD)
-The DMP-BD10’s P4HD technology processes more than 15 billion pixels per second and applies the optimum processing to every pixel in the video data on the disc — resulting in exceptional resolution.
- The P4HD instantly determines whether a source is film or video and optimises the processing accordingly, ensuring natural images and lifelike movement through smooth motion
- 16-Level Motion Detection categorises the image motion of each pixel into one of 16 levels and applies the suitable progressive processing, for stunningly beautiful progressive images with minimum conversion errors
- P4HD generates each pixel more accurately according to information obtained from up to 60 surrounding pixels. Applying progressive processing to huge amounts of data, it delivers images of striking beauty
- Diagonal processing creates smooth, sharp diagonal lines by quickly detecting diagonals and applying correction to the pixels accordingly
The DMP-BD10 supports backward compatibility for a variety of optical discs including DVDs and CDs, and up-converts video playback from DVDs to 1080p by using HDMI.

I want HD content.... plain and simple
I don't want to watch Upconverted Content.... if I don't have to.

I highly doubt the Panasonic chipset will outperform the Silicon Optix Realta or Reon for that matter when it comes to SD DVD deinterlacing and scaling. I closely A/B'd the Toshiba HD-A1 (which is excellent) to the Denon 2930CI. The 2930CI is definitely better.

I especially like the position memory feature that the Panny DVD players have that allows me to load a disc and go straight to the place I last bookmarked (if the DVD allows position memory as most, but not all, do). I would guess this high end BD player will do this also; if the BD format allows it.
This BD player is still way, way, way too expensive for me but if money were no object I'd be interested in it. I look forward to the reviews.

Does anyone know if the Panny will do the same downconversion/upconversion thing to output 1080p as the Sammy did? Also does anyone know if it will decode TrueHD or DTS-MA? I'm assuming that it has HDMI 1.2 also unless anyone can confirm differently. Are there any reviews yet or did anyone here order it?

Bottom line: it's exactly the same as the Samsung.

I will say that shipping an HD player with only a composite cable is pretty bush league. What is next, shipping players without power cables?

Just have to completly disagree with this post, 1300 for a HD player is way too much cash in the market right now.

I would love to have this player:
1. Pannasonic
2. Specs look great
3. HDMI
4. Upconverts my collection of DVDs (Very imporant to me)
5. BLUE Ray (I thought it was going to win the race, but I am not sure now)
-With 50 gig, the video could look better, but it should be able to hold a large amount of Extras. Might only need 3 disks to hold all of SMALLVILLE Single Season.
6. Looks good
Why I will not get it:
1. PRICE
2. Only want ONE format (I do not not want two Players, I can wait to see who is going to win the war)
-HDDVD will have my Superman/Batman and other movies...
3. Waiting to see whot Sony PS3 is like (HDMI, Video Qaulity, Upscale my current DVDs...)
