Poseidon : Extended Version

From DAVISDVD.COM

It seems that the HD DVD version of POSEIDON will include both the 98 minutes theatrical cut and the 125 minutes extended version specially prepared by director Wolfgang Petersen. It will also include a audio commentary by Wolfgang Petersen and Actor Josh Lucas on the theatrical cut also. The HD DVD release is to be released on December 5th.

I thought Poseidon was okay, but went by too quick and felt sloppy. Hopefully the added time will help. This looks to be the first extended cut to debut on HD DVD. I'm sure the dvd will follow next year.

But nice for us to get both at the same time. Wonder if this will include branching.

Btw...OP, you might want to delete the original thread in the main forum.

Now I'm really looking forward to this! I'm so galad Warner took their time. I remember when many people were all upset about it not being day and date, but in the end it was for the better.

Does this mean they've figured out how to get seamless branching to work on HD DVD? That would bode very well for LOTR.

I preordered mine from Amazon at the $34.99 list price. Hopefully they will honor that price.

it's odd that the DVDTown article does not mention the film as being a 'extended cut'

http://www.dvdtown.com/announcement/...ofposied/4100/

if it's a combo is the extended cut on both the standard and HD side?

This is exactly what I thought, too.

If it has the extended version, I'll definitely pick this one up.

HiDef Digest notes this:

Note that despite persistent rumors over the past several weeks that the HD DVD version of 'Poseidon' would also include an expanded "Director's Cut" of the film, the disc specs delivered by Warner indicate only the 98-minute theatrical version. We'll certainly keep you posted if the news changes.

I really don't like the combos (have no use for them since I've written off SD DVD entirely), but I could put up with them if they didn't cost so much...

Poseidon was a good movie because it was so short. I don't need to see thirty minutes of inane "character development" of cookie cutter stereotypes.

Interesting. I hope the rumors hold true otherwise I'll be passing on this (as I suspect most others will be too).

I just looked at the case coverart through DvdEmpire and it shows nothing about an extended cut.

So I think you are still seeing the cover art that was sent a while ago. We shall see.

By the way, apparently both BD and HD DVD have gotten seamless branching working.
