There haven't been any released yet that will decode the new formats. But the A1 will decode DD+ and TrueHD and pass it to any reciever that has 5.1 inputs.

True, but then you only get the DD core. The only wat to get DD+ is to use the 5.1 inputs.

Im insanely happy with how the setup sounds, movies like Gladiator with its DTS track sound just simply awesome.
The entire process of getting a receiver, running wiring, tuning it, then doing wiring from the devices all over again with coax, etc etc. Just wouldnt do it.

Ugh. The last thing I want to do at 1:30 AM is start mass-deleting posts, so drop the whole "is multichannel audio mainstream?" argument because even if the mainstream doesn't care, we're not the mainstream, so who cares?

In mulling over this DTS, Inc. announcement about the Studio Canal releases using only DTS-HD-MA for lossless audio compression, it occurs to me that if they are doing that it is likely that the Tosh XE1 player will be able to decode DTS-HD-MA and pass it over analog out. (Of course all the players should be able to pass it over HDMI, but how many current receivers have HDMI inputs?) And if the XE1 can do it, won't a firmware update for the A1 be in the offing?
Some suppositions to be sure, but it seems likely to me.
Even if I can only get plain old DTS out, the chance to pick up some titles that would otherwise not be available here on HD DVD seems well worth it to me. (Although there is nothing on that current list that would interest me.)

No receiver can handle DTS-HD over its HDMI inputs as of yet. HDMI 1.3 is needed. Some current ones can probably be updated to handle 1.3, not sure.
A1 would depend on the specifics of its processor and firmware. I don't think we know if it is capable. I've only seen assumptions and rumors.

It is confirmed that Studio Canal titles will use DTS-HD Master Audio for the original track and DTS-HD Hi-resolution for alternate languages.
