Kubrick titles questions
I have some questions about the possible release of more Kubrick titles on HD-DVD.
As we know, Full Metal Jacket was released a few months ago. When this happened, I found it kind of strange, because we had heard that some Kubrick titles were being planned for new DVD releases (The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, A Clockwork Orange, and also 2001) with anamorphic widescreen transfers and additional features. They were supposed to be released on September 5, but they apparently are not coming out on that date. I thought that FMJ would be in the next wave of titles (maybe next year), and that's when the HD-DVD should be released.
I wonder, could FMJ have been a test case to see if the existing masters for the Kubrick titles were good enough? Since FMJ had a 1080i master, I would assume the other titles would have to have been 1080i with similar quality as well. Since Warner has said they have pulled the 1080i titles that were going to be produced and are starting over with new masters, could the Kubrick titles have been some of those, and is that why those titles are not coming next month? Maybe if FMJ got good reviews, we would be getting HD-DVDs of the other titles soon.
If they have decided to do new masters, it would make sense to hold off on the standard DVDs as well so they can also benefit from them.

I heard that the Kubrick films that have been shown on the various HD channels have looked amazing, 2001 in particular. I think these titles have already been re-done, particularly since A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut have either different aspect ratios from their prior releases and/or are now anamorphic (plus, EWS is supposedly the uncensored version, which would obviously require a new transfer).
So while it was slightly odd for WB to put out FMJ so soon before doing many other Kubrick titles, I don't believe one has to do with the other.

I'm sure they've been working on these for a while now. I'm hoping WB releases more this year, because Universal is being nice enough to release Spartacus for us.
