Your SD-DVD collection...which studios???
Thought this might be an interesting little experiment...
Going by which format the movie studios support right now, have you thought of going through your current collection to see just how the HD war would be divided for you and your tastes?
Personally, I haven't taken the time to do it yet but it could be fun.
Anyone?

I've got a shitload of Fox and Warner. Very little Paramount, but what I do have from them I really love (i.e. anything Billy Wilder, Godfather, etc.). There are very few from Sony I would have to have, but those that I've got are major for me (Lawrence of Arabia, Bridge Over The River Kwai). I've got a few Disney but not too many. I've got a lot of MGM because of Woody Allen alone, but then throw in several Lynch films, The Man With No Name Trilogy, and that all starts to add up fast. So for me, MGM and Fox are the biggest losses I'm taking by not having BD.
I've also got a ton of Universal so I'm in hog heaven with their HD DVD releases. A lot of stuff I own, though, are foreign films done by Criterion and I have no idea who would release them in HD.

I have a ton of Universal and Warner. That was why taking a chance on HD DVD was so easy. Granted I have a lot of Disney cartoons, but honestly don't care if I upgrade those to HD. Given the option I won't even bother with 90% of them since animation looks pretty good on DVD already and those are mostly for my kids.
There are very few Sony titles I even care about owning and Paramount isn't a big deal to me either.
Fox is the one I will want quite a few HD titles from so hopefully they will release on HD DVD at some point.

I have a lot of Fox, Warner and Universal films. Luckily for me, Universal and Warner are HD-DVD. The biggest issue will be if and when Fox releases TSWT. Big issue!

I haven't really thought about it much. There's nothing I could really do about it anyway. I certainly won't get into BD until they catch up in quality to HD-DVD.
One thing's for sure: I don't care what Lion's Gate does. They are insignificant to me. I think they have 6 or 7 titles in their catalog I would buy, and I could do without them if necessary.

I just counted. This is funny. I've got about twenty Lion's Gate movies and sixty each of Sony/Columbia, Fox, and Buena Vista. So that's about 33% of my collection.
I've said it time and again: I need Buena Vista on the HD-DVD side, or I buy Blu-Ray. Between Miramax, Studio Ghibli, and the regular BV releases (Pirates, early Shyamalan), I'd miss out on too much. Now, if I can find adequate versions of these films internationally, then I don't have aproblem. But past Ghibli releases in Japan never had english subs.
The Fox and Sony stuff I can live without, if need be. A lot of the movies I have by them I got for $6 and they're just to watch. Non-essentials, if you will.

I have mostly WB titles. Then after that it looks like about a tie between Universal and Fox. If Fox supported HD DVD or Universal supported Blu-ray, I'd go buy one right now...well I'd probably hit the can first.

Just did mine...WB had the lead, by far. Then Paramount. Then Sony/Fox (tie), Universal, Disney, New Line, MGM and Lion's Gate. In that order.
I have to say...judging by this...my decision makes sense. Over half of my collection is (currently) supported by HD DVD. I also didn't include any of my music DVD's which would push it even further away from BD.

Universal(164), WB (154), MGM (105), Fox (84), Columbia/Sony (65), Paramount (51), Disney (39)...Dreamworks (12), New Line (12), Lionsgate (10). From my Access database.
I guess Fox controls MGM now...

Sony will not allow the porn companies to print their movies on Blu-ray, so once the porn studios start producing for the next gen formats, then it will be on HD DVD.
P.S. I know it was a joke, but something for us all to think about...

There is definitely a decent sized market out there in pr0n world. I'm surprised by your answer somewhat, is that something that has been stated?
I understand that the demand for HD porn is probably not high, but if one of these formats is to "replace" DVD eventually, you'd think there would be more talk about it, especially if Sony is so "stick-in-the-mud".
Maybe it's just an afterthought for now. (I'm still kinda new to the HD-DVD/BD game)

Yes, I'm serious. I remember a few porn studios announcing support for BD, then Sony turned around and said, "We're not going to allow porn to be pressed for BD." And that was that.

Str8talk on AVS has mentioned the possibility of porn in the future.
Don't put much faith in him though. He spouts the same bullshit that all BD supporters do.
