That's in the Other Forum, which is specifically for topics that don't fit anywhere else. And I'm not saying the topic is useless, I'm just many of the comments in this thread have devolved it into that.

I'll let you know if it ever arrives.

No, seriously, are you sure you sent it to the correct address? I haven't seen hide nor hair of it.

Are you going to make fun of me again if I tell you?

I made an HD DVD demo disc and sent it out to a few members on this board and AVS. It basically has a bunch of trailers and whatknot all in HD. Most in 5.1...a few not. Nothing big. Just wanted to give something back to the peeps.

I'm all for the better formats, but I'm one of the many that are just holding out for better titles.

My next door neighbor has an A1, and it does look awesome, but there's just not enough good titles out there yet to warrant the cost for me. You know the players will be half the price a year from now (or probably 6 months).

I can't explain my thought process. I bought my Laserdisc player back in the day just to get "The Nude Bomb" which was more of a total cost than the A1 costs. I was an early adapter of DVD and have close to 3000 discs (kind of sad really), but those were cheap back then.

The value add, so far, isn't quite there yet for me. It will be someday, but I'll fade back into the general joe6-pack for now.

Sorry for digressing from the topic. Just my thoughts on why some haven't gone to new formats yet...

So, digi, when I move back to LA in November, and potentially buy a second HD DVD player if I get a TV for the new bedroom, will you send me a disc with new trailers on it?

I have nothing to add, I just wanted history to show that Cornflakeguy posted in this whacked out thread, too.

Maybe I should start a new thread. There are definite positives, but "SELL ME ON IT DAMNIT!".

You are an owner, is there really a reason to make the move now with such few good titles?

What titles would get you to jump in, I guess would be a good question. Because I think the list of titles out there is pretty darn good.

Edit: Actually, on second thought, start a new thread. We'll sell you on it.

I know I've stated it before but my reasons were simple.

1) I had seen it and was blown away by it.

2) I wanted another player because mine was 3-4 years old and I wanted one that would upconvert.

3) The price was perfect. I used a coupon, got RZ points and the Toshiba coupon, plus a bunch of GC's so I paid about $200 for it.

4) I was and still am disgusted with Sony and the way that BD has run their side of this format war. I realized that sitting by without doing anything wasn't going to get me anywhere. It was like bitching about politicians but refusing to vote. The more people that buy players will buy more discs...which means the other studios and manufacturers will sign on. And although people compare BD to Beta, that scares me the most. Beta had better quality and so does HD DVD. I don't want the same thing happening to it and us being "stuck" with BD quality.

After picking it up, I seriously had no idea how good everything would look (not to mention SOUND) on my system. Others have touched on it before but you don't really get the "wow" factor until you see it on your system. You know it. You love it. You use it constantly. But when you finally give it legs and you see where it can run to, that is what can make you giddy. But yes, I've also always criticized the sound of DVD for not even coming close to what I got on laserdisc. The sound that comes out of my Toshiba squashed a lot of those criticisms and the HD DVD soundtracks pretty much completely does them in.

As big of an advocate as I am of the format, I probably own fewer discs than most of the people in this forum, surprisingly enough. There are a bunch coming out that I want but until then, I'll just sit back and re-watch a lot of my titles. It's almost like watching them again for the first time anyway.

That's my short answer.

Oh and to bring it back to the subject at hand...

You can burn HD material to regular DVD discs NOW and watch HD. If you have an HD video camera, you could burn those home movies to disc now and watch them full-rez. OR...you could do like I did and archived some HD stuff on discs just for fun.
