Until the player actually comes out, we won't know for sure.

The Edit King 10-17-06 05:13 PM

That's why I'm waiting, but they better hurry the Hell up, because I'm gettin' awful itchy, and I don't think I can take another day being without my HD DVD!

I mean, I'm on the verge of just gettin' in the damn car and drivin' over to Best Buy and grabbin' an A1 off the shelve and paying full price!

Supermallet 10-18-06 04:54 AM

Go buy the A1. Just do it.

The Edit King 10-18-06 12:54 PM

Okay, but I don't wanna hear anyone accusing me of being unethical for 'working the system' and taking advantage of a loophole or whatnot when I immediately return it (in a week or two) and exchange it for the incredibly NEW & IMPROVED A2 (if it is indeed better after all) when that sucker FINALLY comes out!

THE TOSHIBA BLOOD WILL BE ON ALL OF YOUR HANDS!!!

The Edit King 10-18-06 01:05 PM

WOAH, NO!!!

Best Buy is SOLD OUT and Amazon is presently getting them from a place called 'Electronics Expo' and folks say their shipping is to be desired! One guy said he paid for faster shipping and it still took 7 days!

Oh well,

Ya snooze, ya lose!

I'm just gonna wait until I can buy it from a place where I can physically return it and get another if I need to. I'd hate to have to ship it back and go through all that Bullcorn if something were to go wrong with it.

Spiky 10-18-06 03:29 PM

You unethical scoundrel! Serves you right, trying to cheat Best Buy like that. :)

(option)

The Edit King 10-18-06 04:48 PM

WOW & Thanks, Spiky!

WT...

Toshiba HD-D1???

What's that?

What do you know about it?

How does it compare to the A1?

Okay...so ya get a remote control, but NO 6' HDMI CABLE LIKE YOU GET WITH THE A1???

NO SALE!!!

Spiky 10-18-06 04:50 PM

It is all black. That's the difference.

I would assume you get a cable, this is the Walmart website we are talking about. They also seem to still have the RCA version in stock. Also the same as the A1, but says "RCA" on the front.

The Edit King 10-18-06 05:01 PM

Don't make me laugh!

OOOPS!!! TOO LATE!!!

 & rotfl

The Edit King 10-18-06 05:18 PM

Okay, I'm finished laughing now.

...are you serious?

Are you saying the RCA is made by Toshiba and is the exact same machine as the A1?

Supermallet 10-18-06 05:56 PM

It's not the exact same as the A1, it actually has an extra port. So some people prefer the RCA.

Do NOT buy from Electronics Expo. They took forever to get me my player.

The Edit King 10-18-06 07:36 PM

Thanks, SM!

I got that Vibe when I checked 'em out and read some of the feedback.

You know, I actually felt 'wiggly' inside when I read about that guy that paid for faster shipping and it still took him some 7 days to receive his! -ohbfrank-

(I can only imagine the shear HORROR of having to return it if it pooped out...)

(That wasn't you was it, Mallet man? ;) )

Supermallet 10-18-06 08:04 PM

It could have been.

I think I did leave some feedback, check for my username.

XavierMike 10-18-06 10:23 PM

BTW, I have the RCA. Love it.

Please help me find a 1080p LCD HDTV

I have pre-ordered and pre-paid for the Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD Player, so now I need a new TV. I am planning on purchasing a widescreen 1080p LCD HDTV for my bedroom in the next few weeks and would appreciate some advice on what/where to buy.

Budget: $2500-$2700
Size: 37-40 inches
To be used for: standard DVDs, HD-DVDs, and some regular television

I am considering the Sony KDL-40V2500 40" Bravia V-Series 1080p LCD HDTV.

I would prefer to order the TV from some place like Circuit City who will delivery, install, and connect everything.

Do I also need to purchase HDMI cables, or will those come with the TV/HD DVD player?

Please post your advice. thanks

Throw this in too for good measure, as did I, and you should be golden!!

I just picked up the Sony VPL-VW50 SXRD 1080p front projector and I'm thrilled watching HD on a 10 foot diagonal screen.

About $3,000 over my limit. Very nice, though.

I think for now I'm going to get the Hitachi as a stop gap until I can decide on either a projector or a larger size RP. Of course, this will allow me to save up to afford a nice one, and having another CRT is always a welcome thing. My one hope is that one of the local dealers will have one of the 2006 Mits color tubes still in stock, maybe at a closeout price, since it doesn't look like Mits is doing 2007 CRTs.

My advice would be to go Plasma and get the 42" Pioneer PDP 4270 Pure Vision. I have the 50" model and its simply stunning! The best plasma picture I have seen imo. Beautiful blacks, no burn in problems. Just an unbelievable picture that has to be seen with HD-DVD to be believed.

As for having the place you buy it from hook everything up, my advice to you would be to learn how to do it yourself. They can charge a ridiculous amount of money for setting stuff up. I know the Best Buy prices are outlandish especially if you want them to install the HDTV to the wall. Anyways Its not that difficult and would only take a couple hours. With the money you save you could buy a bunch of movies for your HD-DVD player and get the knowledge of how everything is set up so if you need to change something you know exactly what to do.

Just my 2 cents...

PS..

Supermallet 10-21-06 02:22 AM

I agree on setting things up yourself. It may take a little work at first, but you'll know a hell of a lot more about your home theater afterwards. And if you ever need to mess around with it, you'll know what you're doing, because you set it up yourself.

The Bus 10-21-06 02:17 PM

OK, here's my story. I need to upgrade my bedroom HDTV. I currently have a Sharp Aquos 26" and I am very very happy with it. My only problem is that it's a BIT too small. Occasionally, I want to play games while in the bed and the size just isn't enough.

I didn't want to upgrade until I could spend about $1000 to get something bigger, and an opportunity has come along.

While looking through the mail, I got a 15% off coupon for Circuit City. I've also had the good fortune of having a friend who is looking to buy an HDTV and may consider buying mine (at $500 which I think is a fair price).

What all this means is that I can buy a 42" Sharp Aquos for $1200.

My Considerations

LCD vs Plasma. I'm choosing LCD because my bedroom can get very bright and I am extremely happy with the PQ I am getting although the black levels leave a bit to be desired. This I can live with since it's not my main display. I'm also concerned about burn-in since 80% of what I watch is morning news (with a crawl) and/or video games.

1080p required. My current set is 720p. I am not going to upgrade it for another 720p set. It's either 1080P, or I wait until the right TV comes along.

Size. The size of 42" on the new Aquos is a bit too big, but only a few inches. I can live with that. I'd want to get at least a 37" set.

Inputs. My current set has a DVI input. The new one doesn't, and that's OK. My current one does not have HDMI or a built-in tuner so these would be a nice gain (on the Sharp).

Is there a TV (at Circuit City) that you'd recommend over this one? (Unfortunately, Sony XBRs and LGs are excluded in the 15% offer).

I'm looking to spend around $2000 (before coupon).

Supermallet 10-21-06 02:25 PM

If you like your current TV and just want to go bigger, I'd say just go bigger. I doubt you'll find too many 37" 1080p sets.

The Bus 10-21-06 03:46 PM

Cool. Sharp makes a 37" version of the Aquos but it's not even much cheaper and CC doesn't even carry it.

The Bus 10-21-06 11:50 PM

I got it. It's obscenely big for the room. :)

Supermallet 10-22-06 12:49 AM

You'll think it's too small soon. ;) Glad it worked out, though.
