Can somone lay out the differences in the two Toshiba HD-DVD players?

I think there was already a thread about this, but I could not find it. I am mainly looking for the differences and if they are worth it. Maybe if some people with the XA1 could explain why they went that route. I think I am going to go HD by months end, and I am just trying to decide if I want to go cheap or expensive on the Toshiba.

Thanks for any help.

A heavier build, a motorized door, and a backlit remote. Beyond that, I think they're exactly the same. I know the insides are exactly the same. Personally, I would buy the A1 and spend the extra $200 on HD DVDs.

It's actually $300 more most places, if that is all, I will save the money. The door thing is actually kind of annoying. I tinkered with it at a local electronics store. I will be using a learning remote as I hear they are just horrible (the included remote that is).

The more expensive model is also susposed to be sturdier so that it doesn't rattle as much when playing a disc. However, I don't think that feature is worth the extra $300.

The only feature difference between the two models is that the XA1 has an RS232 port. Otherwise, the remaining differences are all cosmetic.

What would you use the RS232 port for? Hooking it up to a computer?

It's useful for people who automate their HT controls through a computer, yes.

Can the automation be done via ethernet or USB?

The x1 also has a double chasis. Supposedly helps with vibration. Better for CD playing the audiphiles say.

RS-232 is for high-end systems like Crestron. If you don't know what it is, then you will not be missing anything. That port is for custom installers.

I have a quick question that i thought i would ask in here instead of opening a new thread: How do you zoom on the A1/D1, or does it even have that capability? I was watching a non-anamorphic DVD the other night and couldn't find any way to do it.
