HD DVD on a 480P Projector

Hi, I'm considering taking the HD DVD plunge, but currently I have an Infocus X1 projector and not enough in my budget to replace it.
Is anyone using the Toshiba player without a High Definition TV or Projector.
Is the improvement in picture quality worth going ahead with the purchase now or would you recommend waiting until I can upgrade my projector also.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert, but I can't imagine you'd see any benefit at all. SD-DVDs are encoded in 480p and that's all you're going to get out of your current projector. I'd personally save that $400-$500 and upgrade the projector first.

I've demo'd HD material on a Infocus 4805, which is a mid level 480p projector, and it was gorgeous. Id definetly say theres a benefit, albiet not as amazing as a 1080p projector would display, but you'll see it for sure.

In the very least, if you upgrade to hd-dvd now and start buying titles that you want, you will have them for when you upgrade your projector or tv.

Of course, all this depends on if the titles available and upcoming are ones that you would like to purchase.

You'll notice a drastic decrease in artifacts if nothing else.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'll give it a little more thought, Rockstrongo's suggestion sounds good to me, no sense in continuing to buy SD DVD when I know I am definitely getting HD DVD in the near future.

He should have said a drastic decrease in artifacts on the HD DVDs. It won't reduce artifacts present in SD DVDs.
