Huh.

No mention of Blu-Ray. I thought this was a blu-ray player.

“Sony has done very little to justify why the system is worth a premium price for consumers who don’t care about raw hardware performance and are not hardcore audio/visual consumers,”
Tell us about it. That could be said about a lot of Sony products.

His point was that a large percentage of PS2 owners were not interested in raw hardware performance and they arent hardcore cine/audiophiles so BD will not be a selling point for them.

So, what good is this system to them?? Sony has not displayed this for the PS3 yet.

MS is starting to look smart for not initially including the HD-DVD drive and having to increase the price. I, for one, was wrong and criticized them for this.

I read that to mean: analog TV users. And I'd have to agree. What can this do for a 27" set that the PS2 can't do? Or your choice of Nintendo console.

Exactly...and for that reason, I cant see these flying off the shelves any faster than the 360...in fact, I wouldnt be surprised if the sales were more sluggish than the 360 due to the price.

Even if the sales are high at launch, how will they do in 2007 after early adopters buy theirs up?

Another thing is the kids bedroom factor that hasnt been discussed....ALOT of consoles are in the kids/teenagers bedrooms on their tvs. How many kiddos have anything more than an analog tv in there?

I think that the PS3 will sell-out is a definite. The question is, will it continue selling out after the initial shipment?

And PS3 catering the A/V enthusiasts... If you want a Blu-Ray player, you're buying it now. Not in 6 months.

The number of shipments will be a factor though. If its as limited as the 360, then definately.

Does anyone know how many Sony plans to ship before xmas?

the BIG question is...

What are the chances it will be delayed if they're still having problems with BD?

I remember hearing that Sony plans to have 2 million PS3's available worldwide on launch, and will have 1 million released each month.
So that would mean 3 million released worldwide by Christmas.

I'm willing to bet that they won't have half of that released by Christmas.
I suspect there'll be some major problems with cell yields as well as Blu-Ray issues.

my prediction - only a few hundred thousand PS3s will hit on release day. of course all but a few of them will end up on ebay with price tags 3x higher than retail and every single one will sell at that price because people are stupid and have to have something asap no matter the cost.

now I'm going to try to get one but I'll be damned if I'll pay anything more than the $600.00 + tax for one. if it takes me 3-4 months to get one so be it. I'm actually waiting to see the super-duper combo packages that EB/Gamestop come up with. I can almost see it now -

"this mega package includes everything except for the kitchen sink"

Yeah, MS planned to release alot more 360s too, but that didnt work out.

Personally, I hope they are in short supply so I can bleed some Sony fanboys for their money.

I made about $2500 off the 360s last christmas.

I had a guy in my area buy a premium 360 from me for $1200 cash. I met him in the parking lot of the mall.

I almost resorted to wearing a tshirt that said..."I have 360s...ask me about them"....then walking around Best Buy or Target.

I ended up just using ebay like everyone else.

I think the latest Sony estimate is 2 million units in 2006, and 1 million/month for Jan-April. Their first estimate was something like 10 million units by the end of March, they saw the light on that one.

There's a lot of crosstalk going on right now about Assassin's Creed being far from a PS3 exclusive. Some people are saying 360, some people are saying PC, and my Nintendo rep told me 360 and the Wii! So if Assassin's Creed was going to make you buy a PS3, definitely hold off for a bit.

I agree. Doing a worldwide launch will mean that there won't be a lot of them on the market anyway, so anything less than a complete sell out is absolute disaster.

I'm starting to hear a lot of the same things about many of the exclusive PS3 releases. IGN has an article up where the Mercenaries 2 developers have all but said they're expanding to 360 as well.

Well, it's become so expensive to make these games that the developers have to have it on the broadest release possible to make their money back. And with the PS3 being so limited at launch, a lot of launch title developers are expanding to the 360. However, I am willing to bet Microsoft is bringing its big guns to bear by giving developers incentive to add a 360 version, and with Sony bleeding money, it's a tactic that could really pay off. This will also force Sony to charge $59.99 for any game that isn't exclusive, otherwise people will wonder why the PS3 version is $10 more (or higher) than the 360 version when they look the same. And then when the PS3 exclusives are more than $59.99, people will wonder why that is so when so many great third party games have stayed at $59.99.

Good points about the pricing....Im sure that the PS3 pricing has definately made developers queezy about their PS3 exclusives.

I wouldnt be surprised if alot of them release on all platforms. It makes the most sense really.

Also, the 360 will get a lot of PC ports, whereas the PS3 will see very few of those.
