I wish I could somehow find out which stores actually CARRY the players. I've called my local ones, but they just say they don't carry them. I never see them on the shelves either....

Wal-Mart is my largest account at work and I have been in roughly 50 Wal-Mart locations all over the country since HD-DVD was released. It seems to me that the only locations I saw anything HD-DVD, players and movies, were in brand new supercenters or recently remodeled supercenters near Best Buy.

I didn't see any in the large rural locations at all.

Now, this was not always the case since I live in Cincinnati and they just opened three brand new locations back in May and none of these had anything HD-dvd.stuff.

$400.00 seems awful cheap.... I might have to bite my tongue and go for it as well!

Another example of Wal-mart destroying the economy.

I will be leaving Monday to work the Knoxville/Chattanooga/Nashville market and I will be in about 15 Wal-Mart locations. If I find any deals I will post them on here..

I just came back from the same Wal-Mart where I bought my player and now they have marked it down to 400.00. They started with five players when I was there a couple of weeks ago and now they are down to three. They didn't have the latest movie releases from last week though. The Best Buy across the street had all the releases including last Tuesday's releases.

ARHOLMES,

What Wal-Mart are you talking about? I am going to be in that area this week and I might check it out.
Thanks,

My Wal-Mart didn't seem to carry these at all. No players; no movies. $400 is really tempting....

I was in Best Buy in Salem today, and they had an open box HD-A1 for sale for $450.00. IIRC, there was a date of 6/4 on the markdown tag, so it's been there a few weeks I guess. If anyone is interested, grab it.

My Best Buy isn't even carrying any HD-DVD players. They told me it was a special order product. I didn't even bother asking about Blu-ray since most Best Buys are getting no more than two.

Edit: I checked their website and none of the SIX closest stores to me can get this as in-store pickup. So I'd have to go to Amazon if I wanted one, which sucks, because I have this 12% off reward zone coupon.

ARHOLMES,

You emailed me the wal-mart where you found the players, but I deleted the email. Would you please email me the info again?

Thanks

You can get 10% off the player at amazon. Just order 3 hd dvds on one order. This will give you the 10% off of a player and any hd movies for a year I believe. I only buy from amazon now just for the great discount. Also, you can sign up for the free 3 month amazon prime trial and get free 2 day shipping on any order...

I just called the Wal-mart that I think ARHOLMES bought his player from and the guy working told me that they have never sold Toshiba DVD players...lol

I guess I am going to have to pop in each of the 11 locations in this area instead of calling....OH WELL!

Suprmallet - the "in store pickup" thingee on the BBY website is not definitive. The store has to have some minimum level of inventory, like 3-4 units, before an item will show up as being available for in-store pickup. They do that to hedge their bets, they are reducing the risk that the store will sell out of the product before the inventory status is fully-updated.

So, your best bet is to actually call the stores in question and cross your fingers that the person you get on the phone knows how to correctly check stock and tell you the true inventory status. In theory, any one smurf can use the BBY computer system to check stock at all the stores so you should only have to call one - and then call the store that supposedly has it in stock and see if they will hold it for you until you get there.

I got a Best Buy reward zone 12% off coupon in the mail yesterday, does anybody know if this can be used towards the HD-DVD Player? I've got a bunch of credit there, so if this does work I think I'll be picking one up today. I don't see why they wouldn't take it, it says valid on all DVD players over $99, but I never know with Best Buy.

Of course. I used it on mine.

In fact, I had bought mine 2 weeks beforehand and went back to get the credit on my account.

Sweet, then I'm in after work. Does anybody remember how much Best Buy's warranty cost for the HD-DVD Player?

Mine was $80 for 4 years. I took it because, hell, if the thing breaks and they can't fix it, I'll get the next model.

Honestly, i never buy into that shit but considering I'm saving on this and it's a first gen-model, I opted for it. I have had zero problems with the player but I'd rather be safe with something like this. $500 isn't something i drop every day.
