It will be hilarious if PS3 games are not even on BD discs.... just priceless.

Actually I think the price would be about $200 against the consumer, but I'm just ball-parking that

I bet they will be on BD discs, but they will be single layer of course.

A single-layer BD would be more than sufficient for a game at this point. While it's not enough for a movie with MPEG 2, a game is another matter entirely.

Being sufficient and being required are two entirely different things. DVDs are more than sufficient for a game at this point.

I didn't argue that. Rock made a comment about the launch games probably being single-layer BD. I was just saying that while that doesn't cut it for a movie, it would be perfectly fine for a game.

Oh I agree....If Sony is having a problem with BD DL discs, then they are probably ok for games....BUT, if they are just having general BD read problems, then they are in trouble.

I believe Sony has mandated that all the games would be on BD media.

I'm sure the discs will be SL, and I'm sure most won't even take up more space than a DL DVD.

Sony's gambling a bit here since there could be issues in creating the media, or there are bottlenecks in the limited production lines. All consoles have hardware issues when first released, and because the PS3 comes with a new type of optical disc player - I can see the PS3 having even more issues than other consoles. BD is an unknown variable in the quantities they intend to produce and in usability/durability. They can try to make things as smooth as possible in pre-production, but we won't know of the issues until production goes full steam.

That is the key....the Sony mandate. There will be no games that actually require the space of a BR unless the developers are just lazy or put in fluff. But Sony can't very well have games not on BR because they make money on the media and they need the BR name to take off.

I expect that we'll see a Final Fantasy sequel for PS3 pretty quickly. Those usually have about 15 minute segments of gameplay each followed by 10 minute segments of video, dragged out for about 80 hours of "gameplay". If the whole thing's encoded in High Def, that could eat up a lot of disc space.

At the rate they are going, there won't be a FF game for the PS3 for at least another 2-3 years.

I am of the opinion that there haven't been any Final Fantasy games in over a decade. Now they just make interactive movies.
