As far as I know, that's the only BD player available at launch. I think Sony's is pushed to end of July. And for those unaware, the price is only $999.99

Interesting that they chose the same color scheme as the Toshiba HD-DVD players.

I think its a bit too early to be announcing BR players... do you think they can predict a whole month in advance?

Just seems like the BR coalition hasn't had much luck with such a long term predictions (1 month in advance). Maybe its solidified a bit... or maybe they'll keep stripping out features until they hit the dates? I remember back when the BR folks were predicting that HD-DVD would never even make it to market...

Why are the HD players (HD-DVD and Blu-Ray) looking like VCRs?

I thought it was just me, but everyone I show these players to automatically thinks they're VCRs.

My guess is they're trying to distinguish them from DVD players. Though the Warners insider Mark Rubin (mod at AVS) has been talking with said the Samsung was far smaller than the Toshiba.

The Samsung BD-P1000 matches their DVD-HD860 player design.

Black and silver? Not exactly a trademark violation.

Black on the top half and silver on the bottom half. I'm not saying it's a trademark violation, but I also doubt it's a coincidence.

Most DVD players are either all-black or all-silver, not two-tone.

Blu-Ray is here!

2 people on AVS picked up their samsungs tonight.
FYI, both have had glitches thus far. One person had a lock-up and the other had the disc "spit out" 3 times and it wouldn't play.

Anyone here getting one?

I'm going to wait for the PS3 because at this moment my wallet cannot support BD or HD.

Maybe if I win the lottery tomorrow. But I don't play the lottery, odds are pretty low.

That's a pretty crappy lottery your playing if your only getting $1000.

Seriously though. $1000 overall is not a lot of money to someone who makes decent money. But, it is overpriced for an item like this.

To someone with money (I mean who has it and doesn't ever have to worry about it)? $1000 is like $10 so it doesn't really make much difference.

If you don't have a $1000, you seriously need to start focusing on your retirement goals more closely. Don't be worrying about items like this. But, to say that one needs to win the lottery to have an extra $1000 is kind of going overboard. One only needs to make reasonable money and know how to use it to have an extra $1000.

I'm sure most buying one of these on here didn't win the lottery. I thought about buying one, but thought why? Why pay $1000 to watch a couple titles. Nope. I'm waiting this one out. Will have something by December im sure.

The Samsung player is just arriving at the vendors, but they will not be on sale until the 25th. The 2 guys that are posting in the AVS forum are a vendor and a guy that BB sold to by mistake (nearly off the truck). Only the vendor has hd movies to play. Funny how they are arriving 11 days before they can be sold! (Maybe they will sell them earlier?)
