A $3,800 notebook... what a deal !

If it's one thing a notebook user would pay an extremely high price on it's a notebook that will play High Definition movies.

I think the laptop had one. I dunno what you'd use it for though.

backing up the hard drive?

burning HD home video to disc (assuming you have an HD camcorder)?

Hopefully in a few years good HD camcorders will be available in the sub-$1K range, BD and/or HD burner drives will be as common as DVD drives are now, and media will be reasonably priced.

Granted, most people don't have a use for this stuff yet, especially at these prices. But it has to start somewhere.

Are you serious? There are a myriad of uses for large-volume optical storage.

Pioneer is releasing their Blu-Ray pc-writer by the end of May with a retailprice of around € 800 ( $ 1100 USD).

I also heard the european prices of these Vaio products witch will be released here in June.
The desktop will cost 2500 euro's and the laptop 3000 euro's.

It's better than paying for the other format which will fail. Then you'll have to go with your master. Pray that he forgives you.
