Dolby Surround with HD-DVD/analog

Just testing out some more discs and noticed my 2.0 surround discs sound like hell with the HD-DVD player set to multi-channel out. Everything is collapsed to the front. If I switch back to analog (instead of multichannel), the regular Dolby Pro-Logic 2 processor comes on and it sounds great again.

Anyone else noticing this or having to do it?

I may be incorrect, but I don't think the HD-A1 does any Pro-Logic/stereo surround processing through the six-channel analog outputs. If it gets a stereo signal, it pushes the audio to the front main speakers, and I don't see any notes in the manual or menu screens to change that. So, when I'm watching something in 5.1, I use the analog outputs, and when I'm watching something in 2.0 surround, I use the optical output.

This is what I have been doing. Even with my Denon I think my receiver does a much better job with regular CDs (for one it gets the subwoofer involved) and I use the digital out for them.
