I got it too. I wonder if it has anything to do with Google Checkout; maybe they're expecting another deal to come along this fall.

xfilekr 01-06-07 08:07 AM

How long does it normally take to see the discount? I ordered 3 hddvds earlier in the week and got the discount, but adding items to my cart and going to checkout now it doesn't appear.

I think after you make your qualifying purchase, you have to wait for them to enroll you in the "program." You'll get an email at some point telling you that you qualify for the promotion. I don't know how long it takes, but it's at least a few days.

I just got this email too! Yay!

What about the Blu Ray guys? What if we start buying Blu Ray titles?

Both Hd-DVD and Blu-ray titles are eligible.

I received the email about the extended promotion as well. I hope Amazon will be good about updating the BDs to include the discount. Nothing like waiting forever for a discount that never comes, i.e. Miami Vice HD DVD.

Hammer99 01-06-07 11:30 AM

I got the E-Mail too, God I love Amazon Prime WOO-HOO!!!!!!!!

As for the BD's, I had already been buying HD-DVDs from them for a couple months with the discount when I got my BD player...as soon as I started buying BDs, the 10% off worked immediately.

how long does it take to get the discount.
you answered that question in your own post with your first order.

as for the other order not showing the discount.
look at the previous post with the email that tells us the promo is good through the end of 2007.

it says not all the discs will have the discount right away. it may take a few days, so amazon says wait a ffew days before you order those discs.

Why don't I remember typing "sweet" for this thread title??? :) God, It was so late when I posted this.

I've caved ... had to pick up the Amazon Prime account. Sucker for HD DVD.

Geez, feels like 1998 all over again with the new DVD purchases to start a library.

Davy Mack 01-09-07 03:44 AM

Ordered my first 3 titles yesterday. Thanks amazon!

:)

I'm not sure...
From the e-mail (see post 50):

Although you won't see any promotional messaging on our Web site, the discount will continue to be automatically applied to qualifying orders through 2007.
Sounds like you may still have a shot, I don't see anything about being 'grandfathered' into the program. I'd place an order for 3 titles (most of the prices are still good even without the discount) and then contact customer service. Good luck.

The last date to sign up was December 31, 2006. Anyone you signed up on or before that date is enrolled to get 10% off until December 31, 2007.

I assume the reason for the extention was to make everyones end date the same to avoid confusion.

xfilekr 01-17-07 05:42 PM

dang it...my order was Jan 3rd, lol...and I wanted to pick up Clerks II!

dvdirv 01-23-07 12:12 PM

As a qualifying member, Amazon has not been flagging many new release titles, so your automatic discount does not appear.

I've had to call Amazon and instead they will manually place a credit in your account. They will cancel your current order and you have to reorder with the credit. This works, but it doesn't work the way Amazon promised it would. Why should you have to go through the hassle of redordering and calling Amazon to get a discount that they promised would be "automatic?"
