Oh, I know. It's still the way these movies should be priced. Not like $25-$30 for the remake of Assault on Precinct 13. I mean, come on. If you're gonna gouge me, at least have the courtesy to do it on the good stuff.

Stuff like this is making it incredibly hard for us fence sitters to continue sitting on the fence.

I wish I could speed up time to instantly increase the number of releases, end the format war, and get a bug-free 2nd gen player. :)

Just ordered The Fugitive and Bourne Supremacy. Got my 10% off!! Here comes a good year with amazon!!!

darkside 05-20-06 11:30 AM

Wow, I just got an email today from Amazon saying I could use the deal and I have only ordered two HD DVDs from them. I checked the Fugitive and it has the 10% off. Now if they would only drop the price on Unforgiven. I have a $15 off Amazon coupon from Visa and a $10 Amazon Gift Certificate I'm dying to use on HD DVDs.

For some reason, Unforgiven was $20 a few days ago and now it went up. Something is screwy with that one title. I'd wait it out and keep checking.

DVDFreaker 05-20-06 02:05 PM

I don't know what movies to get to take advantage of the deal :(

I just have to order 2 movies instead of 3 and I will still get the deal? If I do that and still don't get the 10% off, I am screwed

DVDFreaker 05-20-06 02:22 PM

Ugh, the code didn't even work :(

DVDFreaker 05-20-06 02:43 PM

Hmm, for some reason, if I preorder RoboCop, Terminator, and Terminator 2, the code works but if I order something else besides those, the code would not work..oh well, I decided to preorder the 3 of them

I never entered the code. I had just ordered 2 HD DVDs in the past and suddenly got an email today saying I was eligible for the 10% off deal.

Cool

If they want HD DVD catching on they need to lower the disc prices

Amazon's pricing is quite fair considering it is a new format. Yes, they have to adjust some of their pricing, such as full pop for Blazing Saddles and Unforgiven, but I figure that is just getting used to what the heck they are doing.

Now if you're suggesting the studios need to lower their prices...

I don't know what to tell you. They're selling mabye 5 to 7 thousand copies of each title to a player base of approximately 10,000 units. As a business practice you don't instantly slash and burn pricing, it opens pandora's box, and you can never go back.

It'd be nice, but I'm being realistic as an early adopter you pay the price for new products. If you don't want to pay the prices, sit on the sidelines and wait, they prices will eventually come down.

I agree the Universal ones are a bit overpriced, but I have paid under $20 for all my Warner titles so no complaints there and even the Universal ones can be found for $25 which is hardly expensive if you like the movie. Now, Warner's hybrid discs are flat out overpriced if they are going to MSRP them all at $40.

Zwerchfell 05-20-06 06:31 PM

I don't mind paying 20 but 25 is already too much for me, only if it is a really must have.

HD-DVD prices are the same as when DVD launched. Remember those non-anamorphic bare-bones Fox titles with a $34.99 retail price?

namja 05-20-06 10:42 PM

Cool. Several months ago, my cousin used my Amazon.com account to buy a HDTV (because she didn't want to setup her own account). Now I get 10% off HD stuff for a year. :D

digitalfreaknyc 05-24-06 12:08 PM

I just spoke with Amazon about my order. I'm not supposed to get Fugitive or Bourne for another week! I ordered Jarhead because the price was a good $5-6 cheaper than Best Buy and it would help me get the 10% off. I'll just return the new one I get to BB.

She said there was a delay on Jarhead because "it takes 2-3 days to locate the item."
She said there is a delay on The Fugitive and Bourne because...ummm...some other stupid reason. She made absolutely no sense. She said they put "4-6 weeks" in there because they received their shipments late and everything is going out late.

Lame. I understand that everyone is getting their shipments late but gimme a break. Other people have apparently gotten theirs because they didn't choose free shipping AND because they signed up for their new program. I'm starting to not like them. They're getting as bad as DDD.

Mr. Cinema 05-26-06 07:59 AM

Unforgiven is now $18.99. Combine that with free shipping and 10% off, and $17.09 is a great deal. I'm ordering it now.

I ordered Bourne on Wednesday and used my prime shipping and got it yesterday. I guess they are hit and miss with some of these HD titles.

digitalfreaknyc 05-26-06 08:09 AM

Fugitive and Bourne FINALLY shipped today...a week after I ordered them.

VERY hit or miss.

Rusty James 05-26-06 08:23 AM

I received Bourne and Chronicles of Riddick from Amazon yesterday, as promised.

So, this is retroactive? Did you have to buy the HD through AMAZON's direct store? I bought one through Amazon via JR.com

Would that count? I don't have HD-DVD yet, but it would be nice as I plan to get one eventually.

digitalfreaknyc 05-27-06 09:46 AM

I'd check with them. Give them a call and ask. When did you buy yours?

If you plan on getting one "eventually," would this even really help you? You're going to lose out on all those months when you don't have one.

In other news, I finally got my shipment. I guess complaining to Amazon helps. ;)
