I'm thinking we will see a much more even split this round of console wars. I agree the Wii probably won't be the number 1 console, but I think it and the Xbox360 are probably going to at least double their console sales from this generation all at the expense of the PS3. As a gamer I will spend my $600 on a Wii/Xbox 360 combo and skip the PS3 until it has a major drop in price. It seems like everyone I talk to is moving to the Xbox360 now. Sony has trouble brewing in the US market.

The reality is that one single killer app can change the tide of system sales. The original PlayStation had Twisted Metal and Resident Evil, which were two completely unknown franchises at the time. Console sales have really hinged upon this X-factor, which is traditionally unpredictable.

This is true....Gears of War or Killzone coule possibly be those titles that swing it (at least according to initial reviews and buzz)....I really think Halo 3 could have squashed alot of the PS3 launch momentum had it come out at the same time, but alas, its not coming out until January.

Just think, MS could package Halo 3, the hd-dvd external drive, an hd-dvd movie (or coupon) and the 360 premium system for $599. That would definately be a nice rival to the PS3.

I guess the PS3 really wont have many good launch titles anyways, so maybe it wont matter.

Im hoping Dead Rising is a smash hit too....at least from the description it sounds really good, but who knows until we actually get to play it.

Also, I dont know how big Splinter Cell is (I know I love it), but its gonna be available on the 360 a couple months before the PS3 is even launched.

Price will lessen this though. I bought a PS2 for Final Fantasy X and an X-box just for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, so I realize the power of a killer game or two.

However, both consoles had dropped to $199.99 at the time I picked them up, making them relatively painless impulse buys.

At $600 for the non-tard pack PS3, it will be a LONG time before the price drops enough for a more casual gamer like me to run and pick it up after playing 1 killer game.

Do you really think that anybody would give Wii a second glance if it was priced the same as the 360?!? I don't think of it as anything other than a "gateway" console.

Actually, at that same price the PS3 would still have features not on the XBOX360/HD-DVD combo, like HDMI, 40 more GB hard drive, and wi-fi.

While the PS3 has the majority of 3rd party support, I would not be surprised to hear that changing over the next 4-5 months as companies realize that given the backlash from the public and broken promises from Sony that profits may not be a slam dunk like they thought.

Development does not turn around on a dime and a company that is platform agnostic is the most successful (EA). Square has FF's in the works for all the consoles, so while the PS3 title will sell some systems, those other versions might as well.

Additionally, if you follow the industry in Japan at all, you would inderstand there is far more excitement for Wii and it's titles than PS3. The only titles close are MGS4 and FF whatever. Nintendo could definitely come out the winner. Once again, the Sony fanboys completely disregard economics and the casual buyer as they have with BR right along. What casual buyer would spring for a $500 PS3 when they could get a Wii with SIX games for the same price?

Yes, Wii is much more anticipated in Japan now (and I agree), but to dismiss the PS3 completely is ridiculous. Of couese no casual buyer will buy a PS3 at $500. But believe it - the PS3 will be sold out initially, as the hardcore fans will snap them up like cake. And in 7-8 months the PS3 will be discounted to $399 - a much more affordable price - to start attracting more casual gamers.

The XBox360 has a 60Gb HDD? Thought it was 20Gb, the same as the cheaper PS3? And does the 360 have HDMI now?

What broken promises? The only one I can think of is the dual HDMI and the Spring release date which was only for Japan anyway.

People who give a damn about how there games look will scoff at the Wii. I seem to get trouble with the administraters every time I bash the Wii but when others bash the Playstation 3 they turn the other cheak. The Wii deserves to be bashed. It simply can't compete with the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 because its not a next gen console. Its a current gen console in a new package and a new controller.

Killzone 2 fake footage comes to mind and the console also lost USB ports and got much bigger at this years E3. Sony has a reputation for smoke and mirrors and that is why many of us don't trust them.

BTW, you get in trouble for bashing the wii because you do it like a 10 year old. Your "real gamers" won't play it and its inferior technology arguements are pure fanboy bullshit. I could list the problems with all three, but at the same time could list just as many reasons certain people will be drawn to all three. One thing you need to learn is just because you don't like something doesn't mean your opinion speaks for a majority of people. My problem isn't that I think the PS3 will be a bad game system, just that I can't see it being better than a combination of the Wii and Xbox360 at the same exact cost. I don't want a Blu-ray player in my PS3 and don't like the fact I have to pay $200 for it. I'll buy my PS3 way down the road when its $300.

My strong dislike of the Nintendo Wii comes from being a tech head really. I love high quality graphics and the Wii is a huge step backwards. As for its price you would get more for your money buying an Xbox. Its even cheaper then the Nintendo Wii. You get similar graphics and a few games with high definition support. My bashing of the Wii comes from the fact I see nothing appealing about it and I have no damn clue why anyone does. I have never heard an arguement for the Wii that makes any sense and until I do I remain really really confused.

To be fair, we DON'T know anything about Killzone 2 still. It may or may not still live up to the hype. So we cant' say it's a Sony lie until we actually see the game itself (or if it never comes out).

And the price wasn't a lie - Kutaragi always said that "it would be expensive" and that we'd have to work for it. Guess what - he wasn't lying. But if the PS3 came out as $399 instead of $4/599, no one would have complained about the fact that Kutaragi lied. It's all double standards, really.

Oh please. Wii has one thing going for it that MS and Sony forgets - FUN. It looks like a blast, and who gives a damn about how many frames per second in 1080p the machine does - if the games are fun, I'd play it. I STILL play 8-bit games for exactly those reasons.

See see. This is the exact kind of arguement I was talking about. What about the Wii makes it more fun then the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. Sure the Wii could have some fun games but the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 will have plenty of there own. Gears of War and Resistance Fall of Man looked more fun to play then anything on the Wii and several times more graphically beautiful. Can someone please give me an arguement for why the Wii is more fun.

Go watch Mario Galaxy and come back. It looks 100x more fun than Gears of War or Resistance (I'm so sick of FPSes)

I wouldn't get my hopes up that the PS3 will drop $100 in 7-8 months. If it drops in price, the most will be $50 and that'll be after a full year. I don't see it budging at all before that.

Sony is losing a lot of money on the PS3, and can't afford to drop the price.
It took Sony 2 years to drop the price of the PS2.

The Wii will tide me nicely until there's some kind of price drop.

Ive never seen a more boring, plain jain mario 64-esqe game then Mario Galaxy. It looks so repetitive that i would have to cancel my ambien prescription and just stick to mario galaxy to get me to sleep. Again, these 3-d marios ARE NOT for everyone, and i think these nintendo fanboys need to realise what the majority of the gaming population in the US is into.

If Nintendo tries to play the same game as Sony and Microsoft, they will fail, and I think they know it. Making the Wii is the absolute best path for Nintendo to take -- doing their own thing in their own way and playing to their strengths. The unique controller is also a huge differentiator.
