Exactly right...the more important thing is that the media is 1080p which it is....im sure ill probably have a different hd-dvd player by the time I have a 1080p display.

Thanks for clearing that up. So what sets do you reccomend to use the Samsung BD player at 1080p? Would the Mitsubishi 73" 73727 DLP or Sony 60" SXRD HDT do the job?

The 73727 does not accept 1080p input (I have this set). As far as the Sony goes, Sony Style says that the KDS-60A2000 does accept 1080p.

Yeah. I don't believe there's a 1080p plasma at retail that's less than 65".

Indeed, the panny 65" is the only one and its only $9995! The 47" Westinghouse 1080p LCD is available for 2500 or so tho, if you need a decent size 1080p panel.

Plasma cells are too big to fit 1920x1080 of them at smaller than 65", so far. But the Panny isn't the only one. There's a few in the 65" range, a couple in the 80" range, and Samsung is supposedly selling the 100" only in Korea. Theoretically, there could be 50-something inch 1080 plasmas by the end of the year. But I'm stretching some announcements and rumors, here.

The 2006 Sony SXRDs (due out in summer/fall) will accept and display a 1080p signal. These include the A2000s, as mentioned, and the XBR series.

Cool. We have an SXRD in the store. It's the KDS-R60XBR1. That one should work, right?

That's correct. The current XBR1 will only take 1080i even though it has a native output of 1080p. The next series (XBR2) will accept a 1080p signal.

Those polls are comical at best. Honestly, what're they gonna do, return it and go back to SD-DVD? Or perhaps buy a BR player (id bet most couldnt afford one anyway)? They have no choice but to stick to the crappy hardware since theres nothing else comming out for a LONG time. If there were 3-4 CE companys with players on the way, you'd see a LOT of people dumping the toshiba. That isnt the case tho, as no other CE company wants to touch HD-DVD with a 10 foot pole (other then re-badges, of course). Lets be realistic here. Its the only game in town, and will remain this way for quite a while.

The HD-DVDs I seen looked amazing. Especially Riddick and Serenity. I have only seen one blue-ray movie (fifth Element) and I was hoping to be blown away as I was with HD DVD but I wasnt. didnt look that good (didnt look bad but not up to Serenity on HD DVD)

I agree, with the dissapointing Video of most Blue ray movies, HD-DVD should do better, they need some big titles fast. So far from what I seen I hope HD-DVD wins
