Yeah, I will just wait for Best Buy or CC now to get it. I gues Value Electronics is sold out and Amazon is a crap shoot for Kong. I have the next week off with the new baby, so I should be able to get out....WHENEVER it comes in at Best Buy.
I know CC said sometime this week, he says. BB said next week with the PS3....who knows.

Have any B&M stores received any yet? I was hoping our store would get some today, but no luck. Maybe tomorrow. I did have a few calls about it, though, so there is some interest.

Yeah, UPS does deliver on Friday wewantflair.
I've had my preorder in since sometime in late October, and it says it was supposed to ship Nov 8 for delivery on Nov 9 (used overnight shipping). It still says that, but my shipping information was never updated and it still shows not shipped. They really shouldn't have reopened the preorder as it looks like it's delaying a lot of people's original orders.

It sure seems like someone dropped the ball on this release. Best Buy has absolutely nothing in their inventory tracking system for the drive. There is a SKU and that's it, none on order, non in transit, none in stock....anywhere. I personally have gift cards that I am planning on using to purchase this from BB, but now I'm getting worried that when they finally get it it will not have the freebees.

My order was on 10/24, in the original preorder allocation. After writing to Amazon, they told me today:
Amazon's preorder and inventory system is bullshit. The product page shows that the drive is available and ships within 2-4 days, not that it is backordered.
Sometimes unexpected fluctuations in supply can add time to our
original availability estimate. We have learned that "Xbox 360 HD
DVD Player" is now back-ordered, and our supplier has not been able
to let us know exactly when they expect to have more in stock.
I'm sorry that you were not notified sooner of this change in
availability.
To help compensate you for this unexpected change, I have upgraded
the shipping method for this order to express shipping at no
additional charge. The estimated delivery date displayed in Your
Account for this shipment is now November 17, 2006 - November 27,
2006.

I was told at this HD-DVD event in Paramount that the addon should most likely have Kong and the remote, but take it with a grain of salt because the guy might have been just talking out of his ass.

I got my drive today. batman begins looks incredible. regular dvds did not upconvert to 1080i over component like some people said on avs forums. I can only play them in 480p, tested with both a copy protected dvd and non copy protected dvd both play in 480p. the sound it better when choosing true hd 5.1 then just the regular dd5.1

Doesn't the Xbox drive upconvert over component? If so, there's no need to buy the VGA cables, then.

well mine hasnt shipped yet from amazon either. i read somewhere that people were finding them at circuit city so i did a search online and 2 of the 3 closest ones had them in stock. I ordered it online for in-store pickup, i hope they are really there, I'm going to swing by after class.
Only thing that sucks is I have to pay tax now, but I'm impatient.

Got mine tonight from Amazon. Watched bits of Serenity in 720p and it looks fantastic. Sound was a bit on the low side but I can't remember how the original DVD sounded. I'm going to try out Kong next, probably in 1080i to see how much that improves.

Also got mine tonight. Circuit City (Sacramento, Laguna to be specific) had it in the back. Everywhere else says tomorrow.
PQ is absolutely outstanding over component. I agree that audio output over component is low, but that's remedied with a turn of the knob.
Remote is a tiny bit slow, but nowhere near what I've heard about the A1. Startup time from inserting the disc to intro playing is < 10 seconds.
Very, very impressed. Also, Kong looks great. SFX are still suck, movie is still too long, but damn it looks nice.

The HD DVD drive option combined with the ability to rent HD movies over Xbox Live really has me leaning again towards a 360. I'm going to have to give it a lot of thought, but I'm really tempted. Might have to get a Costco card again and go pick one up. I just hope the HD movie rentals are affordable.
