Definately looks cool. SHould be fun to watch the two formats duke it out when they are both on the market.

It will be interesting to see what happens when this is on the shelf next to a $500 HD-DVD player.

Samsung hints at a combo player... that'll be great. It'll probably cost $1500. Whoo-whoo.

Is it $1300 Canadian?

Either way it looks too much like Samsung's usual low end, low quality players. At least Sony's player looks high end.

Sure is. The evidence: (a) It is a Canadian site; (b) The Toshiba HD-A1 is mentioned to have a price of $700.

$1141 US, according to Google's conversion right now. So, a premium over the US price of $999.

BTW, I like this quote from the article:

Quite a far cry from today’s low end $50 DVD players. The savvy gadget hound may want to wait until the dust settles, and prices reach a reasonable level.

I really don't like the way the player looks in pictures. The Sony looks a lot cooler. But I think this will be my first Blu-Ray player.

I don't know. With Sony's player only a month or so behind I would wait. I love the OLED display on the Sony. If I'm dropping a grand I want something that looks a bit better than this player. I have always had major doubts about the quality of Samsung products. Its not a big deal on a $100 DVD player, but if I'm giving someone a thousand dollars I would give it to Sony for one of their products made in Japan. Stuff made in Japan is usually bulletproof.

Obviously I'm not one to preach being patient though and I understand if you can't wait, but I would start buying movies and just wait for that cool Sony player.

Who's got more money after you spend $1000 on a player?

I'm a typical early adopter. Money isn't an issue.

Obviously to others who have become early adopers, it is.

I'll more than likely be in for this or the Sony. Stinks but I can't control the "GO FOR IT" urge...
