Blank Blu-Ray discs ship says TDK

What a deal!!!

From ZDNET:
Japan's TDK has started shipping blank Blu-ray discs to retailers, and they cost about as much as a first run movie on DVD.

A 25GB recordable disc costs $19.95, according to the Blu-ray Disc Association, the trade group behind the next-generation format. Recordable-rewritable versions of the 25GB disc cost $24.95.

Later this year, TDK will come out with a Blu-ray disc that records on both sides and holds 50GB. The recordable version will sell for $47.99, while the recordable-rewritable version will go for $59.95. TDK began to supply manufacturers with samples in December.
On both sides??? Does that mean it isn't dual layered? Who the hell wants to flip the disc to get to the other 25GB?

They do it now. We have blank DVD's with information on both sides.

You won't need more than 25gb for a movie so essentially they're giving you more space. Nothing new. Besides, you shouldn't be copying movies anyway

If that is a concern then maybe they shouldn't make writable discs.

Considering how unreliable the current dual layered DVD+Rs are I have little hope that a dual layered Blu Ray burner will deliver much more than coasters. I would much rather have it single layered and double sided.

Current talk over at AVS is that this was a misprint. Blu-Ray is a single sided format (even the hybrids only use one side). It is most likely referring to the two-layer version.

Obviously they will have to come down before they start selling many of these. It would be tough for them to make me want to use one at that price over the cd-r's I got for $.03 each or the DVD-R's I got for $.76.

But the new always starts at stupid prices. Probably because someone will buy them, so rape while you can, date when you're done.

What's wrong with copying home movies I record on my HD camera?
