I don't see this as having an impact on the HD race. UMD movies were a great idea if they hadn't priced them so high and if Sony had released a portable player for $99 for just movies. There is a market for it, but just appealing to the 14-24 year old majority that owns PSPs is not a way to launch a format. Studios also need to figure out that you can't charge the same price as DVDs for something that is more restricted in where it can be viewed, with less features and of lower video quality.

I think what it does show for the umpteenth time (something Sony cant get their collective heads around) is how important a factor price plays in a product.

Does this put a dent in Sony's plan to package the UMD and BR versions together for just a few dollars more? Maybe they could package the UMD, BR and Betamax versions together...
