One of the channels in SFO is going HD soon. I forget which one.

I'll enjoy the day every show is HD (I still cannot believe Scrubs isn't, but that is off-topic).

My local NBC affiliate has been advertising an HD newscast sometime in February for well over a month. Too bad they can't even broadcast their prime-time HD programing w/ any video quality to speak of.

ETA: Last night was their first HD newscast - I'll watch tonight to see how it looks.

Not my local (I get it on DirecTV), but the LA ABC station went HD for their news last night (after the Super Bowl).

I dont think any of the NYC news casts are of yet in HD, but I know that FOX 5 does the traffic in HD because of their HDTraffic cam, and there is one other but not sure which one (maybe CBS?).

Here in DC, Channel 9's (CBS) local news is in HiDef - Channel 4 (NBC) and 7 (ABC) are not.

The three are transmitted in HiDef - but 9's is the only news shot in widescreen HiDef.

Local CBS and NBC affiliates have promised it in Mpls/St. Paul, I think with fall 2006 deadlines. I'll never know when it shows up, though. Never watch the news.

I believe all 4 news stations in Louisville are HD (most of them went that way last year).

I think so, too, though it wouldn't suprise me to find out KIRO is upconverted. KING5 is the best PQ wise, but I'm boycotting them after I got a call from Dennis Bounds.

It was a survey about the news. I couldn't believe they were cold calling people asking them to take an automated survey, and I really couldn't believe they roped Dennis in to voice it. How can you report on the national do not call list, and then have your anchor take part in a telemarketing survey!?

I did make an exception this weekend, I was flipping through and noticed Carolyn Douglas dyed her hair all black. She's already smiley enough, but this moved her from anchor to hot anchor.

I think you're misunderstanding the topic.

It's not local channels in HD -- it's local channels with high-definition news broadcasts. Very, very few stations in the country are currently doing this.

The NBC affiliate here in Atlanta now has its news in HD (since the beginning of February).

(But I hate local news with a passion - too sensationalistic - so I've only checked it out once to see how it looked.)

KSDK's newscast does look pretty good, although it is kind of disturbing to see how much make-up each anchor has on his/her face.

The local NBC affiliate advertises that it's news is HDTV, but it's really just up-converted 480p, and anything outside of the newsroom is up-converted 480i. Still, it looks better than the other stations, whose news hasn't gone HD yet.

I don't know if anyone can answer this or not, but how much ARE HiDef cameras to shoot newscasts as such?

The expense really isn't the cameras -- it's changing everything else about the infrastructure to accomodate.

ABC is sometimes and they're even advertising it.

The local NBC station here in Atlanta is broadcasting their news in HD now...I haven't tuned in to see how it looks yet though.

Denver's 9 News (NBC) has been in HD for a while now, probably at least a year. (Seems like it)

It was best when she was teamed with Rebecca Stevenson doing the weather.

I find the HD newscasts distracting because nearly all of the news segments are in SD and the constant switches from HD to SD get annoying.
