With the proper codec and a lot of compression, a full movie in HD on two layers.

Look at the T2 Extreme Edition. Using WMV, they managed to pack a HD transfer on a single disc.

What was the resolution of the T2 disc? 720p?

It usually takes 4 dvd's to fit one movie. And that's a broadcast movie.

It's listed at 1920x1080p, but since it's not 16:9 the verticle resolution of the actual image is a bit less, I believe.

Well, we're animating 8-10 episodes at 5 minutes a piece in HD and I wanted to know if it could be put on DVD. You think it would be cheaper than putting it on Blu-Ray or HD-DVD?

Try dvd first because of it being fairly inexpensive now, if it doesn't do the source material justice then go HD.
