Welcome to HD talk

Honestly I don't want to see plaform bashing or the format wars create shouting matches. I'm starting this forum area with the following statement:
There are 2 viable HD formats coming to market this year. Some of you will like one more than the other. That doesn't make you more or less right or smart or good than people who like the other format. Rather than bash, namecall or otherwise fight, take satisfaction in the fact that you like what you like and it doesn't matter at all if other people love it or hate it, it's enough that you like it.

Later tonight I plan on creating a General Information post that has all the information we are learning about these formats in one post. Basically a place for people to get answers to questions like "What is the difference between the two formats?" and "What titles have been announced?" without having repeatative threads.
When I'm done, I'll send a Report Thread to you asking you to sticky it. At least, if that's okay with you.

So the future of DVD Talk will be.... HD Talk
Or rather HDTalk.com will become part of DVDTalk.com just as Videogametalk.com has

Josh, I didn't see these posts and I created a thread just like you propose. I have already compiled some stuff from a few threads, so feel free to take that or just add to the thread I made.

Well I for one am very excited...I wont be an early adopter as I have budget issues, and have been fairly silent due to this, however, I have been very interested and following all the latest news and info. I like now that everything is in one place for me to come and read and gather information on.

Question about the players.
Toshiba's HD-DVD player is debuting at $500.
Aside from being blu-ray, what does pioneer's player do that the HD-DVD doesn't that justifies its $1800 price tag? That's a huuuuge gap in pricing. What does it do better than the Samsung to cost $800 more???? How many normal people are going to spend almost $2000 on a player?
