Excerpts:
In announcements late Wednesday night at CES in Las Vegas, Warner revealed that the studio also would release upcoming summer theatrical movies Superman Returns and Poseidon on HD DVD simultaneously with the DVD release of those movies later this year.
HBO Video, which is distributed by sister company Warner, will release Deadwood and The Sopranos on HD DVD sometime this year.
In a nifty nod to precedence, Warner is releasing Twister as one of its first titles on March 28, nearly nine years to the day that the movie became the first major DVD release.
Other titles planned include such recent DVD and theatrical releases as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dukes of Hazzard, Rumor Has It and Syriana.
Among the catalog titles from Warner will be Unforgiven (April 11), Goodfellas and The Matrix (April 25), Blazing Saddles (May 9) and The Green Mile Special Edition (May 16).

Warner's announcement of "The Matrix" has just caused me to not want the box set. And since the HD-DVD player will be $499, I may go ahead and get one. No way I'd spend $1000 for a Blu-ray player. Not getting a PS3 at launch either...
Not sure which other catalog titles I would upgrade right now.

but one has to imagine how much the PS3 will cost..... because if they lower the price of the ps3 and samsung and pioneer dont lower theirs, there could be a conflict of companys

I've been pretty set on Blu-Ray...but damn, SERENITY, MATRIX and HP4 all on HD within the next few months and no sight of these titles emerging on blu-ray yet... it certainly makes me stop and wonder... I really hope both Warner and Universal can get behind BR full steam ahead.... because those are my 2 favourite studios and they have a lot of MUST HAVE titles that I certainly don't want to miss out on.

I'm NOT giving up any of my hard earned for money for either player, or any movies, until there is a clear-cut winner, and the other format goes away. Just like beta-max...
If even a little give in and buy 1 format or the other, it's just making it easier for the studios to continue raking more across the hot coals.
Just my 2cents. I'm most definetely not ready to give up on my huge DVD collection either

Side question: If Blu Ray wins, will everything call those Blu Ray disks, HD DVD, or simply DVD's. I just don't see myself calling them Blu Ray disks, i'd prefer to call them HD DVD or just DVD.

The dork in me wants to buy a player right now so I can enjoy some of these films that I don't already own in all their HD glory, but I have definitely become more patient since the first time DVDs came out - I remember when Best Buy had only one aisle and I would get pissed because the selection sucked.
I think I can wait - at least until next Christmas.

Excerpted from an article at Video Business:
It's not 100% clear based on the article if these are going to be HD-DVD releases, but the context suggests that they will be:
Warner Home Video continued to trumpet its support for HD DVD Monday with the announcement of a number of simultaneous HD DVD and standard DVD releases.
Baker said that all Warner catalog releases set for HD DVD also will roll out on Blu-ray once that competing format officially bows in the U.S.
A 14-disc Ultimate Collectors Edition of the Superman franchise will be another Warner two-format disc launch. Its bow will be tied to the June 30 U.S. theatrical debut of Superman Returns.
Other planned 2006 day and date HD DVD and standard DVD releases are two-disc special editions of Forbidden Planet and four Stanley Kubrick directed classics: The Shining, Clockwork Orange, 2001: Space Odyssey and an uncut version of Eyes Wide Shut.
Further films set for two-disc special editions in 2006 include What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Mutiny on the Bounty and The Maltese Falcon. New to DVD films include The Gay Divorcee, Footlight Parade, Grand Prix and Knute Rockne All American.

Will all these films be 1080p ? I know there was talk that 1080p may not be available on the first generation players but will the discs at least be encoded for it ?
Would suck for people to buy the Matrix, then have to double dip 6 months laters for the "1080p Special Editon"

Well, I am on the BD bandwagon, but my DVD player is on its last leg and if it holds out until March, the right deal will get me into and HD-DVD player right off the bat. This list of titles has several I would be interested in, so that helps a little. If I could get a more concrete date on BD it might chage my strategy. There are some good titles here, but I may not buy very much as I don't want to be stuck with excessive amounts of a dead tech. Plus, If I own both it will also mean that when the loser is dumping inventory I can pick up some good stuff on the cheap most likely.
