"This forum is not accepting new posts" ?
 

Seems all the threads in the politics sub forum are now read only for me. Is there some new setting I need to enable or is there a message here I'm not aware of?

There's a giant yellow announcement banner in the forum. I guess you might not see it though if you go directly into the threads from, say, New Posts.

Yeah totally missed that. I don't think I've ever seen a sub forum close for several weeks before. Guess I missed the threads that precipitated a cooling down period.

We all did, it seems, as there was nothing in the immediate closing that seemed to be problematic (no locked threads etc.). I think this is just cumulative and finally hit a point (especially in the more heated political climate of the last few years) where new rules and posting guidelines needed to be established and mods are currently in the process of doing that now. Just my two cents.
