Thanks, but where is "Today's Posts" and "Quick Links"? I don't see them anywhere. This may solve the other odd issue I have now, which is 20+ pages of unread threads that I don't need to know about.
The other link I like in that menu, and sounds like it might help with your problem is "Mark Forums Read". I use it every time I finish going through the new posts. |
Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
It's too bad we're not able to customize the top bar that has Forums Gallery Tools, etc. I only ever use Forums and New Posts from that. It would be nice to add Mark Forums Read.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
This is why I want the "Panic Button" back, so I can assign whatever link I want to it and it's quickly accessible on every post. The "Today's Posts" would be a good link to put there for some. I have a link that shows everything new and excludes the political forum. I'd like to put that in there.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
it used to just be a simple bar and i copy and pasted link to pic. then this pop up screen that didn't work. then worked for a bit and now still not working...

It still works for me. I guess some here are having browser issues. |

I tried three different browsers. Are you seeing the new window like I posted above, or is it still the old (good!) way? I'm only able to post images now by using the [img] brackets (which is a pain!)

When you say insert image, do you mean where it says "paste a file URL"? Or the drag'n'drop? Drag'n'drop worked for me (which is how I posted that image), but the paste doesn't work. The URL just disappears.

Hm. Just tried Chrome again - same problem.

Just cut and paste this image into the URL. No issues. So weird that you're having issues. |
Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
I don't get it either, but others are having the same problem, so there's some variable going on.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
For those having problems, what DVD Talk editor are you using and what is a sample URL that you are trying to get posted that won't?

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
I know that we complain a lot and there is still more to do, but I have to say that this software update has gone remarkably well. My PC and tablet have not crashed at all, and I no longer see the hijack ads that used to happen just about every few weeks. We tend to take things for granted and expect things to just "work," but I know that a lot of work must have happened before and during this migration to make things go so smoothly. You probably don't hear this a lot, but thank you. I think the site is a lot better now than before the change.
P.S. We are doing a software change at my work. A lot different and maybe more complicated, but it's been a real struggle with many crashes, so I am painfully aware of the difficulty of avoiding them. |

Sure you can. But you have to use the old editor. Switch to the "Standard Editor" and as mentioned several times your editing experience will be mostly like the "old days".

^Can you add the 'Like' button functionality, if only so I can like your post? ;)

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
Is it really better protection against spam to make them need 30 posts or whatever before they can post their spam links though? When we had the limit, we would just get a ton of old thread bumps with random comments before they could post their link. If you just let them post the link you can just ban them right away.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
Seems like the misplaced wikis have been respawning. Several threads seem to be getting the same wiki. I’ve been deleted some daily it seems.

Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
The Basic Editor box almost fills the entire screen. Which makes is so easy to type or copy and paste articles.
https://i.imgur.com/2gf6FXH.jpg The Standard Editor box which shows the advanced controls like linking, coloring, size etc the box is so small. You can only expand it vertically. :( https://i.imgur.com/mh0x9b1.jpg |
Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
I'm using Firefox 65.0.1 (64 bit)
For the past week or so, I've been seeing an error message that says "A web page is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do?" It's a yellow bar at the top of my browser with buttons to "Wait" or "Stop It". It only happens on the DVDTalk forum. And it happens when I'm loading a new page. Like when I go forward/back or submit a post. It doesn't happen all the time, just every once in a while. And sometimes it goes away on it's own, other times I have to close the tab. |

No biggie though. I went back to Full CKEditor. The reason I had switched was because when pasting an article the text would appear huge (it would automatically add[h1]tags, but I found a solution. Clicking on the "Source" button first then applying the copy and paste works without adding the strange html tags. |
Re: Jan. 3rd 2019 Upgrade Master Thread
IMHO there's not a single editor that works for all situations, "optimized" or not. We need one that works - for everything. If that can't be done then fix the "Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls" as it does work as before but has an edit box size issue *on some screens."
Essentially, when you switch to "Advanced" mode the edit box can not drug to the width of the screen as before. The max is maybe 1/3rd (at least on my screen). It can be pulled down as far as you want but it can't be pulled across. Replying to a post presents an editor interface like the "Advanced" mode - unable to pull the edit window to screen width. I'd think that should be easy to "fix" as the width can be adjusted properly if you edit an already created post which means the code is there, just not in all locations. |
