In the past, 301 redirects resulted in a 15% loss of PageRank. As of 18 months ago, redirects of any kind (30X) pass all PageRank. They made this change to encourage HTTPS everywhere. As far as I'm aware, you've never had to start from scratch as long as redirects are in place.

So there's no issue with changing the name to HD Talk and redirecting from the old domain to the new one.

While I'm on the subject...

* Consider enabling HTTPS throughout the site. Google gives a ranking boost to sites with 2048-bit certs.

* Please stop using a malware ad network already.

Here's a bug. None of the links on this page work, including the navigation links at the bottom:

^They all work for me, but maybe they have been fixed in the interim.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

I tried three links and none worked. I'm on my phone using Chrome.

Yes, I see what you mean. They don't work for me either. I thought TheBang meant the links were non-clickable. I didn't actually bother to click on them the other day.

Working on this in 2018 -- hopefully soon.

I really doubt we can rename, if the domain stays at dvdtalk.com, which it will.

-A dark theme like youtube's. Or a tech/modern theme, something nice and curvy that will add a sophisticated look compared to this old default. I'm all for simplicity and if it ain't broken don't fix it, but shit man I think a new look might help bring growth and interest.
-GIF avatars for everyone!
I like these suggestions -- start a poll and see if others do?

Enabling https very soon.

We will not do redirects, very very unlikely. Despite your observations, I've been assured the SEO impact would be disastrous.

That's a pity. DVDTalk is so antiquated and limiting.

This x1000. The forums are completely unusable on mobile and have been for a long time. I gave up.

Page not loading. I guess it's finally defunct, having withstood many lean years.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

Why bother pointing these out or even fixing them? I tend to check the new reviews each day, so these blank threads are beneficial, informing us that this was a day without a new review.

But mainly, I just imagine IB “fixing” this non-bug and bragging, ‘see, we fix things here’, while ignoring the many harmful elephants in the room.

Trust us, we all agree with Sonic's recommendations, no need for a poll.

It's 2018. Let's make it happen.

^Pretty snazzy aesthetic, Anus Oils. I like it! I still maintain that the site name should be changed (as much as I love DVDs), but that is apparently too difficult to achieve.

I also get a huge chuckle whenever you call me anus oils

It's hard to get away from the dvdtalk name because that is the foundation of everything. It would be great however to have a new domain name and forward it to dvdtalk but I wouldn't know much about that sort of thing.

I just think that dvdtalk needs a makeover to spice things up and spice up more activity and also follow along with the newer digital times, which is 4k and blu ray and wireless gear.

Re: Why not just fix the site?

I like the current look, it's actually jarring to me when i go to other sites with different color schemes and have a "busier" forum layout. But yeah, as long as its in the form of themes so I can keep the white background then I don't care.

...or... OR, you could *tell* us what these elephants are? I've acknowledged the bad ads issue and said we are looking to fix it. What else?

It's a better name than Sonic. Sorry. What was your old handle? I don't remember.

Yes, one of these IB dudes explained that transfering to a new domain name would be prohibitively difficult. I'm not sure forwarding from one url to another would be a good solution.

I might ask an Admin to change my name again. My 2nd handle was AntSpawn

Re: Why not just fix the site?

Ah yes, Antspawn. I always wanted to ask whether it was ant's pawn or ant spawn. Now you have made it clear. I find Sonic less memorable, but I immediately know whom I'm talking to as soon as I see Hulk spreading his cheeks.
