Fix Twitter embedding
Can we fix Twitter auto-embedding on this site, please? It makes posting Twitter links impossible.
I looked into this a bit, and bare links like this: Code:
https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/820764134857969666Code:
<div style="display: none;" id="ame_noshow_post_1484521830_1">I doubt this is fixable without unconditionally allowing script tags (or a lot of effort, which I think is obvious you guys don't want to put in for this site). "tweet_ame" seems to indicate that this auto-embedding is being done by a module for Automatic Media Embedder. Can you just disable the Twitter embedding function, so that we can paste bare Twitter links without the forum completely mangling them? |
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Yes please! Either make it work like it should, or kill the twitter embedding code that exists in here entirely. What it does now is complete garbage.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
They will get around to it.....In 2021

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Way too optimistic, Deftones. ;)

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Agreed, embedding of widely popular sites like Twitter should be a no brainer.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Hi Everyone,
So I just talked to tech and unfortunately we are not going to be able to support embedding twitter links. To enable HTML on VBulletin we had to disable scripts and this is what is causing Twitter embedding to not work. |
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
So how about being able to just post raw links without the link getting all garbled with a bunch of asterisks?
|
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
^ you mean the bare minimum they could possibly provide? Come on, now.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
I see your post DJariya.
Also, there's a dvdtalk twitter account? |
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Oh okay, I guess it was delayed. It didn't show up after I posted it initially.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Whelp. Credit where it's due. You guys fixed something for us.
The one caveat (for users) to be aware of is that I believe both of these auto-embeds require loading of additional JavaScript, but when posting a quick reply, the page scripts have already finished loading. So when your reply is posted, you yourself won't be able to see the embed properly until you refresh the page. |
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Thanks, IBobi!

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Twitter embedding works, which is great, but whenever someone embeds a tweet it doesn't show up in my browser. How can I fix that?
|
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
^ What browser are you using? Does it work in another browser?
|
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Firefox on my laptop and Brave on my phone. They do show up on Safari on my laptop, but that browser is much less secure than Firefox.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Awesome, thanks iBobi.

You're right. In this thread, the instagram embeds look just fine, but the twitter embeds are invisible. Seems like something that could be fixed with a tweak. Let's hope they look into it. :) |
Re: Fix Twitter embedding
If I quote a post with an embedded tweet, I can copy the URL and paste it into another tab to see the original tweet, but obviously that is a pain.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding
Bumping this because the way twitter embeds work here seems to be the opposite of how the actual twitter posts themselves look. Everywhere else, the TEXT appears above the picture/link. Here, the picture/link appears above the TEXT.
Any way to swap that around? It's a tiny issue, at best, but just something I wanted to mention. Example. This is how this looks on twitter.com, the mobile app, and pretty much anywhere else: https://i.imgur.com/SJ2MB1p.png This is (generally) how it looks here: https://i.imgur.com/aoSWQg9.png |
