Re: Fix Twitter embedding

That is weird, but I think it looks like DVDTalk is using an old API or something, because the layout is entirely different. Look at the icons, fonts, etc. That would explain why.

Edit: Actually, it appears that's the way embedded tweets work. So there's nothing to fix. Check out the example in the dev documentation:

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

Yup, you're right. I thought I saw it the other way on other sites when embedded but I guess I'm wrong. It's weird that Twitter would have it one way for the official apps but another way entirely for embeds.

I imagine they have more pertinent issues to deal with, that this will probably never change on their side.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

So... on a different site I visit, Twitter embedding is done the right way (text on top, pic on bottom). Like this:

So... why is DVDTalk's embedding different than that? Are they using some kind of custom embed?

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

Weird. Testing.
This (from post 26):

VS this (from post 29):

So one has the pic on top, and one has the pic on the bottom. Is it because one is an @ reply? Hmm...

edit: another pic that's not a reply. (pic on top)

So, if I understand this right... pics will only show under the text if it's in a reply. Weird.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

I think that's right, because it's in a reply or part of a conversation. I tested on my own forums, and got the same results. I suspect if you post the Donald Trump tweet on your resetera forum, it'll be picture on top just like here.

I dare not!
Yeah, you're right, though. I found another embedded tweet that wasn't a reply, and it looked like it does here. Oh well... thought I was onto something for a minute there.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

How do you embed a tweet here on mobile? I share tweet and copy link. And paste it in a post. Why is it coming up as a link?

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

On mobile, for some reason, Twitter adds a ?s=21 to the end of the tweet URL. You just have to remove those characters.

Thank you Dan!

Probably a different issue, but when I try to embed a tweet, or quote someone else that has an embedded tweet, I get an error.

Does anyone else with Chrome get this message, and is there a workaround?

I get it too, and youtube embeds in Google Chrome.

I log into MS Edge and it works fine there.

No issues here on Chrome, and I've posted a decent amount of embedded tweets.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

I get that exact error on one of my PCs, but not the other. Both using Chrome. It's strange. I wonder if it's related to adblock and how I may or may not have done something strange with the settings.

Best bet is probably to completely uninstall Chrome, reboot, and re-install Chrome. See if that fixes it.

Re: Fix Twitter embedding

I thought it might be uBlock Origin, so I disabled it, but the issues persisted.

Come to think of it, I also get the issue with YouTube embeds. So I just do it the old way, with the [ yt] tags.

FWIW, I'm using Chrome Version 69.0.3497.100 (Official Build) (64-bit) on Win7 Pro, SP1.

I see something like this on Chrome when I embed tweets too, but on if I click on the "preview post" button to make sure it works. If I actually just post it, it works fine. Strange, for sure.

Everyone seems to be having issues with Twitter embedding as of the past 2 days. Anyone on the tech side knows why?

Is there a particular subforum or thread having the issue? I have a two possible theories.

The politic forum, especifically, the Trump thread part 2. It seems we can't use the embed codes from Twitter (or Youtube) to post the tweets (or videos) like we used to.

OK, so this is the result of me turning of HTML, which I did after consulting with tech. HTML opens the site to vulnerabilities, so I turned it off. BUT if you click the "Insert Link" button on the text editor, stuff should post with no problem:

Thanks for the explanation and advice. I imagine it will be the same for Youtube videos and other things that used to ember using HTML, right?

That is correct, yes.
