New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

Two recent issues have come up with the mobile site. I'm using an iPhone 7 Plus running the latest iOS updates and Chrome updates.

Number 1
All threads used to appear like this:
http://i.imgur.com/5Xiocbr.png

Now, any thread with under 1,000 replies looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/McLChrx.png

Threads with over 1,000 replies look like the first thread.
Even worse though, is sometimes when I click on the thread, it thinks I'm clicking on a phone number, and asks me if I want to dial it.

Conclusion #1: Annoying as shit, but this is just the beginning.

Number 2
Fucking pop-up ad shit motherfucker.
http://i.imgur.com/k1dEyr3.png
Now, every other thread I click on, this type of ad appears. It's not always the same site, but it's the same type. Worse, it auto redirects me to whatever that shitty site is, without creating a new tab or anything. So I close Chrome, open Chrome again, and it sometimes goes right to that site since it was the last tab I had opened.

Conclusion #2: Fucked up ad shit. Fuck this.

Summary: fix this shit, please.

Summary #2: Am I the only one seeing this shit? I can't be...

Summary #3: Sorry for channeling my inner Solid Snake. But seriously... this is garbage-tier forum shit. This place is better than that.

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

#1 is VERY annoying with the result of trying to dial the number. Just started happening to me too. (iPhone & Chrome)

#2 happens too, but for me it seems to come and go, like maybe an ad rotation or something. I'll see it a bunch one day and then not again for a few days.

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

#2 happened to me yesterday too. I can't tell what ad unit it might've been because it redirected me so quickly.

I've had the phone number thing happen too, where I click and it tries to dial a number instead. I thought it was because I might've mistakenly tapped on a date or username, but I'm having trouble getting that to happen at the moment.

I don't see any of that on my home computer...:)

As indicated in the subject line and OP, it's limited to the mobile version.

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

#1 Should be easily fixable by tech, seems like an odd glitch.

#2 It would appear has been going on for a while. It is most likely tied to an ad unit, so I may need to rope in that team, as well.

I'll get these sorted, thanks for the reporting!

the ad redirect thing has been going on for ages. like months and months. there is a thread. nothing has been done about it.

It seemed like it might have gone away for a little bit but now it's back. I've had to go back to using the full site on mobile which in turns just makes me use the site less when not in front of my laptop.

Still occuring as of today

I was on the site on my laptop and got redirected to some random site when browsing the Movie forum. This keeps going on and I'm going to start coming here less. Crazy.

Is this all mobile site, or is anyone seeing this on desktop?

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

I only encounter it on mobile. Not sure if any protection I have on my PC is blocking similar situations.

All on mobile for me. Also certain ads throw a ton of page errors causing constant page reloads (safari)

I've gotten hit with #2 a few times this past week on my iPad/Safari.

And it is really damned annoying.

Never had it happen on desktop.

It happens to me almost every single time I use the mobile skin. It's so immediate that, as many times as it's happened, I've never been able to see what ad is causing it. I've only had it happen once using the full site skin on my iPhone, and I've never had it happen on the full site skin on my iPad.

Same here, at least once daily. And I never use the mobile skin.

Another victim of #2 here.

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

I get hit with #2 a few times a day too. On my phone but using the desktop site. And the worst part is it locks you out so you can't jump back to the previous page. I have to jump back a few pages and click my way back through the site.

Dan 11-17-16 09:35 AM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

Yup, #2 is still happening to me pretty much daily. Same as Draven mentioned, you can't back out. I have to close Chrome or Safari entirely, and sometimes when I re-open, it goes directly to the ad again if I don't back out quickly enough.

These are garbage-tier ads for garbage-tier websites. Another site I frequent had an identical issue, and it was dealt with on the same day it was happening.

Issue #1 appears to have been fixed, so, thanks for that.

Get on #2, though. It's bullshit.

Draven 11-20-16 10:21 PM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

#2 just happened again tonight. How hard is this to fix?

Adam Tyner 11-21-16 05:18 AM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

The redirects have been happening more and more frequently on my iPhone, even when I'm not using the mobile skin.

Still at least once daily here, never use mobile skin.

Same here - I hate the mobile skin and it still happens.

Just out of curiosity, when you're on your phone and these ads come up, are you logged in to DVDTalk or browsing as a guest?

Also, I think it would probably be helpful if people included this information with each report. Example:

Device: iPhone (iOS 10)
Browser: Safari
Skin: Mobile (or Desktop)
Logged in: Yes (or No)

Adam Tyner 11-21-16 06:02 PM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

I've been logged in every time this has happened.

Trevor 11-21-16 06:04 PM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

For me, all are iPhone or iPad, on safari, always desktop mode, and I've been logged in for 17 years.

I see the ad redirects quite often, very annoying.

IB - can we please get #2 fixed? It's beyond infuriating.

b2net 11-26-16 12:17 AM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

Git hit again with #2 again today telling me I was a lucky winner of a Walmart gift card... Um... Nope...

And I couldn't tell which ad did it as it took over the phone and I had to kill the browser...

Dan 11-26-16 09:10 AM

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

Yup, that's exactly how it happens to me, every time.
1. I load the forum
2. I load a sub-forum.
3. I load a thread.
4. The ad takes over (almost always a different site, but the exact same "Walmart Gift Card" bullshit.)
5. (I refuse to click on the "OK" on the ad because fuck all that bullshit)
6. I kill the browser
7. I re-open the browser
8. I have to quickly hit the 'tabs' button or else it just loads the ad automatically again
9. If I'm not fast enough, repeat from #5. If I AM fast enough, repeat from #1, hoping the ad doesn't kick in again, although I've had it happen 3 times in a row in less than 2 minutes time.

This. is. fucking. ridiculous.

I have a hard time believing that they really care enough at all at this point. IBobi, who has replied here, might care enough to tell us something is being done about it, but really... for IB as a whole, it's all about maximizing the ad revenue on a dying site.

We have paused one of our mobile ad networks -- please let me know if the mobile ad hijacks continue tonight and tomorrow, or if they seem to have stopped...

Re: New mobile site issues: Annoying as hell edition.

I just had an ad hijack happen on my desktop about 15 minutes ago.

Device: Mac OS X 10.10.5
Browser: Chrome 54.0.2840.98
Skin: Desktop
Logged In: No (I was in Incognito mode)

I was on the Hot Deals page for several seconds(http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hot-deals-2/), and I was not doing anything, when suddenly the browser redirected itself to the following URL:
