Not allowed to embed anymore?

Tried to post another good song in the 'Post a song you like or love' thread in Music Talk but apparently I'm not allowed to embed anymore, it keeps adding 2 'disabled's into the imbed line in my post, when I try to edit/delete the words 'disabled' it just adds them back in when I try to resubmit the post. No idea what's going on. Those 'disabled's are not in the imbed line at You Tube, I've submitted several good songs without this issue. Is this DVD Talk or You Tube preventing me from embedding?

Re: Not allowed to embed anymore?

One workaround until this is sorted out:

1) Look at the URL at YouTube. Let's say it's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apHV1CaQWOE . Copy/paste what you see after "?v=" and before any "&" that may be there. In this case, it's apHV1CaQWOE

2) Put that ID in between [ yt ] and [ /yt ] tags (remove the spaces):

Code:

[ yt ]apHV1CaQWOE[ /yt ]

It's clunkier, and I hate the 4x3 dimensions of the embed, but it works.

It's most definitely DVDTalk, and it's bullshit.
If your post includes the following: i f r a m e (without the spaces)
you now get:

iframe
(-disabled gets added automatically. I didn't type it.)

It's the same thing that happens when you type certain slurs or names of 'banned' competitor sites.

Why does IB hate embedding all of a sudden? Does this have to do with that lame spammer attack from the last week or something?

This is dumb. Adam, your workaround works (thanks) but it shouldn't be necessary. It's stupid. WTF IB?

^^ (from another thread) A security hole was apparently found when using the direct embedding.

No idea how I missed that. Here's the thread:

I hope it gets worked out. Is this because we're on an ancient version of vBulletin? I don't see html code disabled on any other sites...

It wouldn't be a problem if Youtube were the only site with videos.

Yes, at least for the time being, we don't have a method for posting videos from anywhere but YouTube.

OldBoy 03-11-16 02:04 PM

Re: Not allowed to embed anymore?

that blows!

Re: Not allowed to embed anymore?

And also, any posts that any of us have made in the past using traditional embed code (from YouTube or otherwise) are now broken.

We also can't properly embed non-video items like tweets from Twitter either. This is ridiculous. Just upgrade to the latest version of vBulletin already.

As Adam expressed above, that's how you embed YouTube stuff for the time being. Tech is going to see if they can have it to where you just paste the standard YouTube URL.

Re: Not allowed to embed anymore?

Can we at least get an update to the [yt] BB code to 2013 standards, instead of 2007 standards?

Currently, the BB code produces the following code:

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

I recommend changing it to:

<object width="700" height="394"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/{param}"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/{param}" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="700" height="394"></embed></object>

This can be done very easily in 30 seconds by any Admin by going to Custom BB Code > BB Code Manager > Edit (for the YouTube code) and putting the above code in the "Replacement" box.

This "auto-embed" functionality should be doable with this product:

I think they implemented your recommendation; the YT embeds are no longer postage stamp size

*edit*
i take that back; some are updated to the larger size, most still showing the smaller version
